ebay header - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #58028 146 posts Started by blackbullet
I think the performance is overall pretty good except I think you LOSE torque if you install the header. I think my car accelerated faster with the stock manifold. It kind of pisses me off. The sound is good though. I have the ebay header, high-flow cat (opened piping), aeroturbine resonator and aeroturbine muffler (both are bottle-neck shaped). It sounds mean all the way through the rpm range and is pretty deep too.

At one point before the performance resonator, I did have the stock toyota reso on and it sounded muffled and so I installed a straight pipe in place of it and it sounded horrible in the upper rpms. Now I have what I said earlier with the Aeroturbine resonator and it's perfect (except for the loss of the quick throwback you get with a stock manifold when you punch it).

>I just recieved my ebay header. I orderd it for an mr2 SW20. Its for a 5sfe but slightly different in that fack that the JDM 3sfe doest have two cats it on has one standar cat which is under the car.

Everything still bolts up fine with a little problem of the altenator sitting right on the left runner because on the sw20 the altenator is on the back side of the engine not the front like on the 6g. So belt tension is not going to happen with the header on.

I found that this header is awesome. Its not the surewinproducts header but hey I like it. There was some modding that needed to be done to my down pipe but after that it fit like a charm.

your funny...

you know your halfway to a full turbo set up by the time you buy one of those right?

i could go to my local exhaust shop and have piping all the way back with headers for half of one of those..

ya those hks header are for the 3s-ge only. Not the 3sge beams. They would probably be around $720 with shipping. Ya they are expensive but they would be well worth it in my opinion.

Yeah everybody tells me to move. Its only gonna be there for a lil while longer til I get my new motor. And the part noones sees is that it not all hot air. Under the filter is an induction pipe which can be traced to the the d/s(well for usdm) p/s fog light mount so all the cool arm is sucked and forced in a since to the filter, plus I have a brand new filter on this is an old pic.

I was gonna say, th eold filter look sa little beat up.
Also you should heat wrap your exhaust and get a heat shield around your filter to minimise hot air effects. The heat wrapping will also prevent your oxygen sensor wires melting. It'll get damn hot there!
i installed mine bout a month ago with great results! definitely worth it..

a huge improvement around the 40-100 area but does dramatically make it LOUD i like it but some people on here are pretty hateful of rasp but i love the way it sounds..so mean tongue.gif

I'm debating getting one, due to a engine swap in 5 months. I also found this header to be somewhat more reliable by reviews JVTRHDS-TC9318L....
its worth it man..

your saying you will get a swap in 5 months i would say dont go for it. save that money, you might need the extra money for something in your swap.

you will get used to the headers after a couple of months and you will only notice the power a little at the end of 2nd gear and a big difference in 3rd and 4th.

Yea, will probally just spend the money on doing the exhaust then the header.
Everyone says to heat wrap the headers but dang that looks really awful (no offense) is there any other alternative. Also, is it true that if you don't wrap the headers that they will turn golden & blueish? If that is the case then why do they even sell them in chrome...either they are covered in heat wrap or look like something that could use tarnex...?
You can get it ceramic coated. Its got good heat resistance properties.

Ceramic coatings are your only alternative. its expensive, but effective.

that is part of the properties of stainless steel. you will get the gold look in the first 10 min. of running the engine. and blue probably by 30 min. it's gonna happen. However, it's also those same properties that prevent rusting (and make it expensive).

Does anyone have this header isntanlled on just the stock set up with an aftermarket muffler on the end? I have my the stock exhuast on mine with and aftermarket muffler on the end, and just an SRI either then proformance wise my celicia is stock, does anyone have this with the Ebay header installed? I was thinking abotu it but have no idea how it would sound. I don't want it to be too loud.

I assume because there is a resonator and muffler on the stock setup, it shouldn't be to loud. I could be wrong though.
if done right wrap doesnt look bad

NO ebay headers for 2 holes for oxygen sensors. the 2 oxygen sensor are for California celicas only. the headers are meant for celicas that werent made in CA.

if you have two oxygen sensors in your celi, just take the header to an exhaust shop and have them weld a whole (i think its called a bung) into it, it should cost somehwere around $10.

i had the exhaust shop put a whole in the front exhaust pipe since i have a st celica the oxygen sensor wiring is towards the back of the engine.

just make sure you wrap your headers really nicely, which isnt hard to do. ill post a pic of my wrapped headers.

lol, well thats retarded! lmao, my st emissions sticker says its a federal car, not a california car! lmao, some one at the factory smoked a lil to much that day i guess. lol

anyone try a 3sge header and then custom piping? I would think this would be a quiet way to go.

OK - I am in California. Not sure if mine has two sensors, however, the headers on e-bay are in California. I am going to ask them about the sensors.

I am actually thinking to do a catback first before doing the header. My thought is that it also might give me more performance than the headers. Thoughts?
Iv juste ordered Mine from surewin ebay (by the way i juste bought my celica like 1 month ago for 1400$) im in Quebec (First Post !!:P)
We dont have any smog test or whatever here laugh.gif
But ill have to wait like 2 weeks for the shipping !!!

Iv removed my 2nd cat, I cant wait to put The header on, if the sound is not loud enought, ill remove my resonator, but ill keep the stock muffler because here
in Quebec its illegal to install a muffler that is Louder than the original one mad.gif

Anyways ill give u a word on it after installed it!
