That is beautiful, ever think about making more?
Cracking job, looks fantastic.

Well done.

Thanks for the comments guys, really happy with how its turned out.

Was a bit of a pain to wrap those (1 & 2 was the hardest), I was thinking of getting a secoundhand set and removing those metal nubs off and tidying up the welds for better exhaust flow.

Make more to sell? A lot of time & work is required. Each engine (BEAMS, 3S-GTE, 5S-FE & 7A-FE) are a bit different with the way they route the intake piping, so may require the box to be a different shape.

I'll hopefully do a write up soon, which should have some good info & ideas on how to make one. smile.gif

Impressive dude. All these Kiwi DIY skills make me feel guilty -I just throw money at someone else to do it, or just buy a whole new car lol
about replicating the cold air box for members to buy. If you think about it all ST202 stock boxes are located in the same spot. The mounting screws all go on the same place right. So if you could just buy the pieces of metal and cut them to your same exact size and them ship em out to wherever. Then when the members receive them they can cut the whole on either the top part or left size of the box once they weld the pieces together.

Am I making sense? Just throwing it out there...

True that bonzai.

When i made mine, i made mine with a different design, without that little edge like rusty, and made it more of a square. In saying that, it looks exactly the same, and am sure the holes etc would line up. My hole for the intake pipe is a little lower and more centered for the pipes i had. other than that.. pretty much the same.

So in what your saying, it should work fine if rusty leaves the hole making to the buyer... if he wanted to make these of course haha.

I don't think its very cost effective imo. to buy, cut and send (remember I'm in NZ and the NZ$ vs US$ aswell)

As I said before I intend to do a write up soon.

I got a bit tricky on mine to try and maximize all the free space I had.

I love that cold air box as well.
A write up would be awesome.
Not saying you should, but someone should start selling these, because im sure there are lots of members on here who would like one, but don't have access or skills to weld one up.
But you're right, it would be difficult due to different motors' intake setup, as well as which actually SRI everyone has because they are all lsightly different.

But good job on it, it looks awesome

The way i done mine, was basically like a paper cube that you can make. Make a your cube with sides touching one another, cut it out as one, than fold along the lines to make the box. Than all i done was pop-rivited the remaining side up, and made a lid. I used thinner sheet than rusty though. smile.gif

Last week, dropped my celica in to get the TRD spoiler fitted picked it up a couple of days ago, we've tried polishing up the spoiler the past months to get rid of the colour fade/dullness which worked out ok, but in the end the colour match was out so had it painted aswell as the hatch. The caps are still being painted picking them up next week.

so after all this time it would be rude not to post some pictures...

some of the first pictures after I got it home.

Going to hopefully get some better shots next weekend

Took some pictures in the weekend, no updates though. Just wanted to share with whats been done in different areas smile.gif

whats been done on the outside

The late spec headlights (lows and highs)
the SS-III aero kit which is the sideskirts, front and rear splitters, front grille with a SS-II badge (was orgninally SS-III, but have removed the extra I)
front and side clear indicators, although the sides have discoloured so I'm going to get some white toyota ones off TRDGT4 next time we met up
And then theres TRD rear spoiler

whats been done in the inside

New speakers & an Alpine headuntit, cant pick up NZ radio frequinces with the factory one, except classic hits...
TRD carbon fibre interior kits which replaces the guage cluster, various vents and the centre dash
TRD quick shift set
Celica floor mats
Tom's pedal set, which were already in there

Whats been done to the handling/suspension side of things

I used to have lowering springs back in the day but now have Tein adj. coilovers
TRD 3pt front strut brace & the rear ST202/ST205 rear strut brace
GT4 6 spoke rims powdercoated white with toyo proxes tires

performance/engine bay
heat wrapped the extrators then a HKS exhaust system does the rest
airbox, which took how long to make?
TRD sparkplug leads & sparkplugs, which I think was the first mod
TRD oil filters
theres also a TRD oil filler & radiator cap in there

Fantastic looking car! Can you give the exact specs for your wheels? Size, width + do you have spacers anywhere?

Thanks smile.gif

They are later spec GT4 rims I believe.

specs: 16 x 7.5 rim. +45 offset. he has no spacers and he's running 225/45R16 Tires

Nice interior rusty!! those trd pieces look mighty yummy. Just a 3 post steering wheel and Id say it'd complete the interior. Still your the only member I can say who has gone from nothing to a whole hell lot of mods! and such an organized thread too biggrin.gif

correct, 1996 onwards also on a few SS-III's, not too common to see them I think.

Funny you should say that as I was looking at some 3post TRD wheels (black with red stitch) a while back, its a bit tricky as you have to cross reference it to other models which use the same wheel. Also we have rules here in NZ about the removal and replacement of airbag wheels... which I managed to find a loophole, so I can replace it if I want to.

cheers guys.
nice find aswell

Wasn't doing much today, so I thought I'd get a dyno run to see what I've gained after doing a little bit of work that is: cold airbox, trd leads, hks catback exhaust and the intake temp sensor, also run on 98 octane now

New

Old

Both

I'm happy with that, more smoother across the rev range, better mid range and doesn't trail off hi rpms....plus it sounded great smile.gif
(Couldn't get a video of it due to safety reason, got a sound clip on my phone but came out distorted)
