Rusty's SS-II progress thread - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #59769 587 posts Started by Rusty
Just say 1/4 mile. laugh.gif I agree it's good to see people taking it to the track and leaving it off the streets.

One possible reason for slow launch times is I noticed the strip looks a little aged, most strips in the U.S. repave often so the asphalt is fresh to improve traction.

Yes, as when I change gear I'm higher up in the powerband rather than just the beginning of it. It was fun, and as I said with more practice & a better set up I'm sure times would improve.
They are quite heavy, although beams powered, a bit slow off the mark

But someone would complain about the 2.36m difference ^
This was on a closed road, hence a road sprint wink.gif

I thought it looked suspiciously roadlike but for some reason I mashed the post from August into your last post so I was like, oh it was a track.

Yes they are, I still have the center caps, just looks nicer without them in. Very hard to find these days in this condition & even in NZ.

Congrats, I don't think I'll ever be able to own a car for that long. Or even half that long, so far a quarter as long was barely reached once. laugh.gif

congrats thats quite a while. it would of been the same for me if i hadn't crashed the my first celica. anyway.

you need some nice seats and upgrade your steering wheel.

Damn 10 years...

Celica was my longest owned car at 3 years, and the Caldina is second at now 2 years...
The Starlet and Camry I only coped with for a month each lol... Cube is going on almost a year now though.

Thanks.

how did you crash that one again? TRD steering wheel for the Celica is the same as the Supras, so they usually keep a ridiculously high price on those now. They used to be cheaper years ago. But looks like people had figured out TRD's weird way of assigning which wheel to which model. There are a number of SS-III red seats up for sale atm, which would look great with my Celica. Just they are not as tidy as mine, a little wear and tear on those for sale.

thumbsup.gif I think you, Mike, and trdproven have the longest ownership. I'm at a little over 9 years but considering a sale. Many more happy years to you.

Stef (hurley97) has had her 97 for 13-14 years, a few other have had theirs longer.

Your car was an inspiration to our red one (94 w/Beams), that was 8 years ago and still going strong, just needs some love.

congrats on rolling over into a decade! Nothing is better than seeing a long term owned well-maintained celica
this year is 11 for me.

well you know a lot of trd parts?? Im not entirely sure if the TRD were an option here in the USA. but how much did they sell for when they were brand new????

i believe only supra and mr2 owners and the few GT4 guys can afford the TRD wheels, ive never seen them here on the forum...

the SS-III cloth seats are cool looking but don't hug much of your body.

was distracted by radio on my way home, a mile away from my place cars stopping, didnt notice and bam smacked into camaro ss @ 25mph

How is the car?

Not sure either what was available over in the US. Looks to me like it was very generic lines - ones that would fit other other models eg oil cap, radiator cap

They were 69,000 Yen new, 616USD in todays conversion. so I assume somewhere around there.
You see the steering wheel randomly on celicas here in nz when they pop up for sale. So some owner must have splashed out while it was in Japan.

Yeah the SS-III seats would just match my celica a bit more with the black/red.

Oh wow, its an honour to know that I've been an inspiration to other owners.

I must get out and do more photos of it soon. Work & life seem to get in the way atm.

Totalled, that was his old red ST from memory, before we bought this current silver GT w/beams swap
