Good economical sports car - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #61827 36 posts Started by mrgrape
k i know ive made a thread on a car under 10grand
but i totally forgot about my budget
as before in my thread i was looking for 300zx tt, and sc400/300s
now i find that 300zx's break down and that sc400/300s get avg 15mpg....
and compared to our celicas with avg 30mpg they suck.
i have a college student budget and am feelin like crap because i cant make up my mind
what do u guys recommend?
i really want power in my next car as my 1st was the celi
but at the same time reliable and decent gas mileage
thanks!

let me know if i should get a new celica and do mods to it or just go for the sc300

hmmm
Fuel economical sports car (sports compact). Damn, I can't think of many bases you've already covered. You've had a Celica.

For front wheel drive I say Integras are economical, Toyota Corolla GT-S are aswell. But for something sporty you really are looking at a bit higher displacement (or loads of cash)

I think the answer for this, sadly, is the 240SX again... or the Subaru 2.5RS kindasad.gif (I think these were my suggestions last thread wink.gif )

Oh and Mazda Miatas. Aside from being a girly car(I have no clue how they got this reputation but everyone I know says its a girly car) they are insanely lightweight and get great economy, plus you could always drop a 13B in it down the line. They serve no realistic function if you carry a lot of stuff in your car though.

v6 mustang, camaro, or firebird
240sx
miata
integra
but to get more power you have to sacrifice some mpg
American sports cars need to be V8.
Sports cars need to be RWD.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
hahaha sports cars don't have to be RWD but if they aren't they have to be technologically advanced or have comparable amounts of power or weigh very little.

Please name a sports car in FWD.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_

toyota celica?...dude... a sports car does not have to be rwd....its a sporty, car....i believe the celica is a sporty compact car...therefore that makes it a sports car....i can understad the rwd>Fwd but it makes no difference weather the car is a sports car or not.

i agree with supersprynt.. a real sports car is RWD.. but a sporty car can be either RWD or FWD.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i disagree that to be a sports car it has to be RWD. the Integra Type R is the perfect example of a FWD sports car (from the factory at that)
good power and great handling

Celica nor Integra are not sports cars. They maybe trying, but they aren't real sports cars.

>A sports car is a term used to describe a class of automobile. The exact definition varies, [1] but generally it is used to refer to a low to ground, light weight vehicle with a powerful engine. Most vehicles referred to as sports cars are rear-wheel drive, have two seats, two doors, and are designed for more precise handling, acceleration, and aesthetics. A sports car's dominant considerations can be superior road handling, braking, maneuverability, low weight, and high power, rather than passenger space, comfort, and fuel economy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car

When you have a 4cyl economy motor and FWD you are not a sports car. ITR has no torque, you'll have to get high up in the RPMs to see any power.

Noob...you're talking about a SUPER CAR. Sports cars handle better than most other cars in acceleration, handling, and comfort...hate to break it to you but a Maxima is a sports car and so definitely is my 00 GT-S...says so on my insurance! rofl
Did you just call a Maxima a sports car and also call me a noob in the same sentence?

Epic Fail.

A Mustang is NO supercar, a Camaro is NO supercar, 350z is not a supercar... Supercars are Ferrari Enzos, SL65 AMG Blacks, Lambo, NSXs etc. Supercars are a smaller subset of sports car.

You guys don't have to agree with me I didnt make up the rules. Lots of you just want your Celicas to be sports cars and I'm sorry to tell you, they're not. You could argue the ST205 is, but that's it.

I wouldn't even call an Evo or STI a sports car.

yeah, so a stupidly overpowered grocery getter.

if you really want this to be a legit debate, give 3 examples of what you would consider "sports cars" (but dont fall under the category of "super cars")

edit: actually lets take it to another thread. ( i believe this is a legitimate discussion topic for OT, dont wanna jack the guys thread)

Probably thinking more of a Sport-compact and not an actual sports car.

However, for the debate there are some economical sports cars. Lotus Exige being one, Lotus Elise being two biggrin.gif. Any lotus with the 2ZZ-GE should get better mileage than the 7G celica.(Theoretically... does anyone have a mpg comparison?)

I'm guessing you don't want to pay that much though do you?

Sports Compact = "Economical Sports Car"

Sport cars are anything but economical, but economical cars are FAR from sports... You're trying to mix a Panoz Roadster and a SMART. laugh.gif

You're talking about This + This tongue.gif

EDIT: Roadster Replacing the "Fuel Efficient" Lotus Elise. smile.gif

I dunno the lotus IS pretty economical. (for fuel economy that is, good luck shelling $40,000 - $100,000 depending on the model) IMO you should have done larger extremes. Like Panoz Roadster and Tata Nano. biggrin.gif

Its actually kind of tough to make an extreme comparison without venturing into muscle or supercar territory :'(
I'll stick with the Panoz roadster. You can't go wrong with a V8 powered 2 seat roadster as being both uneconomical and impractical.. especially when it had the 302. biggrin.gif

I still would want one though kindasad.gif
