Limited edition side skirts for 6th gen - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #64 75 posts Started by NEVERSTOP
The cheapest I have found the skirts for sofar is 200 +shipping.
I took a few mesurements of my friends 5th gen and some measurement of of one of my molds... my car is 150miles away so I couldn't measure it itself.
The 5th gen side is 1/2 inch longer than the 6th gen and the space from the front of the rear wheel well to the back of the door is about the same also... I am going to drive up to where my car is tomorrow and take exact measurements....

The only problem that I see with just buying them and using them is that the 5th gen side is pretty much flat and the 6th gen one indents into the car...

That means that I will have to modify them for them to be an exact fit... which wont be too hard for me to do.

As for making it functional that wont be a big deal to do.. I think that there is a flat section on the 5th gen skirts where the scoop is.. that would have to be removed to make them work on the 6th gen cuz of the body line right above the rocker panel.
As for the actual cut into the body I will have to check agian to make sure that you wont cut though ne structual stuff but it should work no problem.

I will post a little more tomorrow after I get back from taking measurements on my car

Edit: I own page 4!!!

99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
Hey Hey what have i misssed in here? Dayam lots of things! I'm wondering which concept are you going with? Everything so far sounds good but i'm a little confused.

it's gonna be concept two, but the duct can be functional or just cosmetic, depending on your choice. and NEVERSTOP where did you find the skirts for 200? i could only find them for 250+shipping.
I don't wanna cut my.....to make it functional. Although i've thought about it i don't know if it is worth it or not.
okay here is the deal, I drove up to my car today... long drive... newayz the measure ments are almost exact with the 5th gen being just slightly bigger than the 6th gen so the skirts will match up but there is a problem with them... the side of the 5th gen is almost completly flat and the 6th gen isnt... it indents inward.. that means there will be a gap between the side of the 6th gen and the 5th gen sideskirts... and it will be kinda big and would look like ****. Newayz I plan on buyin a set and making the nessacary mods to it to make if fit perfectly on the side of a 6th gen. And then this is what I will sell to you guys. I will also include the piping and the cover piece for the hole that will have to be cut to make them functional.

I will probably buy the sideskirts in 2 or 3 weeks and see how hard this will be to do but I think doing this way will turn out better than the way I was doing it before.

I will let you guys know how well this Idea will work as soon as I get my set.

Thanks

So, as when you can.
I, for one, am really looking forward to these.
you have snow? I'm in MO and you're in IA, we were 63 degrees yesterday!
Yea, Down here in bama a few days ago it was hot. Well, hot to me at least.
Never even made it out of the house yesterday let alone into work.
Snowed overnight, woke to find 2' of snow in the drive.
Still needed chains this morning.
NEVERSTOP, any news for us lately?
waitin for the 5th gen sideskirts to come in and see how hard they are gonna be to mold the side of the 6th gen

okay I finally talked my friend with 5th gen into lettin me borrow his car for a day... had to let him take my civic though... that sucked cuz I REALLY didnt want it drivin this time a year...expessially by him... but newayz.

I drove up to my car and took off one of the sideskirts and tried to put it onto the 5th gen... guess what.. it didnt fit..... and thats really good news!!!! the 5th gen side is about 1/2 inch longer than the 6th gen... what that means is the 5th gen sideskirt is gonna fit onto the side of the 6th gen no prob. there will be a gap of about a 1/4 inch on both sides of the side skirt...even though I think it would be better to match up the rear side flush and then fill in the front... newayz the side of the car which I though was gonna be a problem I know dont think will be.. maybe just a few little minor things to change... I really think that, from lookin at the 5th and 6th gen sides and havin the side skirt to work with, the 5th gen invader sideskirts are pretty much gonna fit about as well as the 6th gen ones do and they will have the part that comes up and scoops around...I should have them in in just a few days and will go back up to my car and check it out for sure but I really think that you guys would be better off just ordering the 5th gen sideskirts and fittin them either yourselves or having a shop do it... its going to cost you guys less in the long run... as much as I hate to pass up a chance to make some $ I think this will be your better option.. when I get the side skirts in I will let you guys know what I think will work and what wont.

regardless I am still going to make atleast the piece that will fit into the side of the car to make the scoop functional. I will keep you guys posted about this as soon as I figure stuffout.

thanks

******UPDATE******

this is now the second time I am typing this cuz AOL sucks and right as I got done with the first time I got disconnected.

Newayz:

I got my 5th gen invader sideskirts last thursday and drove up to my car to see if they will work and gues what

... they dont fit... well they do but at the bottom of the rear section the skirt comes back in to far... and that isnt somthing that really can be fixed with out changing the whole structure of the piece... so after realizing that they wouldnt work the way I wanted them to we busted out the dremel and went to work shaping it down.... made me want to cry when I saw how much of that sideskirt that isnt gonna be used... 280 for a little scoop.. oh well.

once when had the scoop portion cut off of the sideskirt we then shapped it down to fit up agianst the side of the celica and the 6th gen invader sideskirts... OMG does it look good.. we 3m taped it on and it makes me wanna just jerk off right there <---- J/K

Newayz the scoop fits with the body lines of the 6th gen invader sideskirt perfectly... right down to the millimeter.. yea we measured every thing out. I am gonna go up there later this week if I get a chance and we are gonna fill in a few gaps that there are and glass it all in.. If I get it done I will post a pic of the side skirt.. sorry not of it on the car though<--- not until the car is finished.

there is some bad news though.......

I am not goning to make mine functional... as much as I would like to I am not doing it and heres why:

I recently got my Brembo cross drilled slotted rotors and after talkin to a locale race shop I decided not to make the scoops functional as there will be too much cooling and the rotors will be in danger of cracking <--- not good and not gonna risk it - PERIOD so dont ask BTW that means that I am not gonna make the piece to make the skirts functional because I will not have an exact mold to go off of.

the shop actually had this really cool program that allowed you to take in photos of your car and then you scanned them in and it would calculated the air flow to certian areas of the the vehicle...was really neat if ne one is interested I could probably find out the name of the program .

Newayz here is the final conclusion I have come to:

If you already own the 6th gen invader sideskirts then just buy the sideskirts here, mine where 280 dollars shipped and they did a really impressive job witht the packaging >biggrin.gif>

once u have both set of sideskirts then you can either fit them urself which I will be more than willing to help you with or you can have a shop do it for you... shouldnt be too much for that.

if you dont have the invader side skirts then I would suggest that you get them and then follow the above instructions.

I am debatin if I still want to produce these or not as it will proably be cheaper in the long run for you guys to just buy both sideskirts... I am still undecided as my car will be done some time here in the next month or two and once that happens I will have not spare time to work on side projects... lots of money to be made racin around here. like I said though I might still make these so I will let you know what I think when I get mine done and I will try and have a price for you guys if I still want to produce them..

Thanks
