>hmm blue block. painting the tranny gold wouldnt be a bad idea if ya still plan on doing it. It might just look good when you put the engine and everything back together. painting different parts of the engine never came into mind when i thought of engine swaps.

so you going straight through a toyota dealer huh? how is that so. I also thought you could not order red top engine parts from 1sttoyotaparts. (or atleast thats what some people where saying)

how are you going about putting everything back on the car. how about when using a torque wrench, how do you know how many pounds the flywheel needs, or the valve cover, or the top of the engine to the block? You have a manual? do you just use the same specs as far as torqueing down stuff off the 5s-fe motor.

Your sticking with stock headers im assuming.

BTW i'm liking your carbon fiber garnish license plate thing. w/e its called. it looks nice

Yeah the part numbers weren't able to be pulled up by 1sttoyotaparts - I was just mentioning them because the parts that I normally order from them my local dealer normally gives me about the same price. I know the guy at the dealer, so he's able to order parts for me (my family bought 4 toyotas there, so its been a pleasant experience). http://www.beams-redtop.com/redparts.htm
That website has great beams info. Hmm torqueing down stuff -- I use air tools, so not really following any torqueing specs - I probably should, but just going by feel and as long as nothing breaks.

Yeah I understand your concern, but this is not my first, 2nd or 3rd, engine rebuild, but my first engine swap. Never had a problem with all the rebuilds that I've done. I can honestly tell you that not even the best of the best torque everything down to factory specs when working on a vehicle. And I'm sure even mechanics at dealerships don't with every single nut and bolt. I'm no pro, but after working on engines for a while you just kind of get the feel for it.

Hope I didn't offend any one with my comments.
hm oh ya the beams engine parts list. ya try to get your hand on a red top manual. if somebody from the forums has them. then you have to worry about converting it from japanese to english.

Id just say go off the 5s-fe engine as far as torqueing down stuff goes. I mean it has the same engine set-up. My guess is that the red top might have some bolts that need more pounds of torque than the 5s-fe. but that would be your closest bet. Good luck with the build.

Just a little update. Nothing much besides paint.

hows it going.

can you put a list of the parts replaced...

Just a little update.

Got all the parts I needed, and had some time to work on it. Then I found out I received the wrong timing belt - I ordered the right part according to the receipt, but the actual part had a different part number, so I had to reorder. Installed the water pump, thermostat, AC condenser, clutch set. (All toyota parts from 1sttoyotaparts.com, and shoptrd.com)

I hope this weekend I'll have time to start removing the 5SFE, clean the bay. Oh I also purhcased an exhaust system that I hope will get me some good results. As slow as I'm getting things done, I'm glad its coming along. I hope to get some pictures up this weekend. I'm also in the market for a new suspension setup because the Tein SS coilovers sucks over bad roads. (once i find what I'm looking for - the Tein SS will be for sale) I just need something more comfortable but still able to keep my ride low.

Parts replaced

1) Timing belt, V belt
2) thermostat
3) Clutch set
4) Water Pump
5) Spark Plugs
6) Alternator
7) TRD short shifter (coming soon - will order)

Cant wait to see this thing.
so just waiting for that belt, then not long till the removal and new install, what cleaning are you going to do in the engine bay?

well got some stuff taken care of today - went to pick up the timing belt - but delay on flywheel part (wont arrive till monday) but i did happen to find something really cool at the dealership , key chain with celica on it for $4.

Just some pics of some parts put together today.

nice keychain. Well seems like the blue on engine didnt turn out too bad. Im sure you plan on doing some blue to the bay to match the blue on the engine. So far so good. glad to see another member doing a beams swap.

Well I decided to work on the beams this week since i had some time, but just my luck it decided to rain all day so far today and forecast is that it will be like this all week in my area. If it didn't rain I would of been able to remove the 5SFE clean up the bay ad so on. Dang I wish I had a big garage to work in as mine is full of stuff in it. But in the mean time i decided to create a custom face plate overlay for the center dash bezel where the radio is.

I have an aopen mini pc similiar to the mac mini and want it to sit flush. Had a piece of thick aluminum sheet metal so I started cuting. I guess after its done drying I can paint it or leave as it. I tried to make it all flush with the original a while back using bondo, but after a while it started bending and cracking. THis material should be alot better and nicer.

nice work there. So im taking it that you work on your celica most of the time outside huh. So whens this swap going to be completed? you said you would be able to make it to that meet on september 26th.

what brand exhaust did you buy?

Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle partshttp://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...p;#entry1107514
Yeah - I work on it mostly outside. We'll I'm mostly off this week and if it stops raining, then I might be able to finish it by the end of this week. I bought a used Prof SR - i never heard of it but its some sort custom JDM brand. I should be able to make it to the meet on Sept 26th.

Reason why I don't get to work on it motly besides work is because of my fiance. She wants me to spend time with her when I'm not busy. Some times I think a relationship is like another job, but no pay.
Try being married. I swear my wife tells me that id pay more attention to her if she was a celica. Cant wait to see this thing.
you bought your stuffs from JHot right?

Yep - thats the best place to get stuff from for the celica besides dealer. It finally stop raining - welp the 5S is out - took about 4 hrs but done. Now gotta take time to clean the engine bay - remove all the gunks and stuff. I might take pictures and post later when I'm not tired.

>got the speedo. Price and convenience was a playing factor in choosing the beams. I saved on shipping because it was a local sale. Beams setup allows me to use the exisitng axle and tranny where as the 3sgte i would have to get a stronger tranny and axle. I like the red top look. The beams gives enough power for now.

3s-gte bolts onto s54 tranny and axle just fine, just dont push the boost smile.gif s54 holds up well!
You going to part out your 5s? You know, just wondering....

I would rather sell the engine and trans complete - cause I don't want to bother taking things apart if I don't need to. But let me know what you need and I might help ya out. I hope to get rid of it all for $325 if some one can come pick it up. But it'll have to wait until I'm done with the swap because I might need bolts or nuts off of it.
Got a M/T right? 325 is a good price, cheaper than salvage yards.

I hope its a good price - cause who ever ends up with it is simply helping me get rid of it as I don't need more stuff lying around the garage or yard.

Tomorrow I start on getting the Beams in -- should be fun. The heat was killing me today though.
are you going to paint the engine bay while your engine is out? just wondering...

ST202 SS-II CELICA threadNew Zealand members check inSticky thread's: How to contribute and troubleshoot.
how many miles on that engine, and does it work?

No - I don't think I have time to do that. Just getting rid of dirt and grime that build up over the years. I wish though.

I don't remember how many miles because I replaced the speedo a while back, but I think when I got the car it had like 112k and I probably put 50k on it myself. I would recommend replacing the engine gaskets and ur usual maintenance parts, clutch was slipping. I had a code relating to a sensor - something about insufficient air flow -- I don't remember at the moment, but I'll check my records.
This build is awesome!
