all the engine bay work is pretty much done - been doing the extension on some of the wires today (I had first thought about having Dr Tweak do the harness, but I figured I might as well do it on my own and learn cause it didn't look that hard. . Tried fitting the exhaust today and I over looked something when I purchased the exhaust -the catalytic converter - . Is it needed for those who have a custom exhaust or can I just measure and weld on a pipe in place of it? I imagine that it might sound louder without it.

. I guess if I work on it the whole day tomorrow I might get it running, but I have to spend time with my fiance and her family tomorrow

Holy crap, that sounds like a beast! Is that due to some modification of yours or is that the true sound from the factory?

Thanks and the credit goes to you for your tips and your past post on the swap that helped me complete it.. Thanks Outsider.
It doesn't have the catalytic converter thats why it sounds louder then it should be. More pics and updates to come when I get a chance to work on it again.
Got the catalytic converter this morning - One step closer to being done.

Took it for a test drive today. Its not idling very steady, so gotta find out what thats all about. Other then that it handles very nicely. I definitely feel the difference between the 5SFE and the beams. 1st gear is very responsive as well as 2nd. Seems like once it hit 3500k rpm the power kicks in and really takes off. It was very fun to drive. Seems like I have to get use to shifting again - not sure if thats because the new clutch and tranny responds better then my old one.

Over all I'm very pleased. If the beams feels this great I can't imagne how the 3sgte would feel. I'm in love with the 6GC all over again. The new exhaust sounds very good though I gotta say that I may have to turn on the music louder then usual to compensate for the extra noise.

Next on the list:
After market Intake
Wheel spacers
TRD strut bar
Reupholster the interior

I can now say that I am a proud owner of a 3SGE Beams -
Congratulations!

well i ordered the TRD quickshifter from shoptrd.com today for a total of $130 - in the mean time i had some free time to instal the clear lenses that a bought a while back ago but never got around to installing them. Looks pretty nice. I like em.

Next week will be taking the celica in to get the windshield replace becaue the crack is getting bigger - I'll also tint the windows from too --

The upper unit in the interior pictures is a Aopen Mini PC - which I love- has 320 gig of hard drive space for movies and music
That kenwood DVD player is awesome except that I was a bit disappointed because it lack bass, so I guess I'll be adding a subwoofer later.

nice, you also have some nice little goodies (clear high stop lamp, the black I'm not usually a fan, but in your case looks real good, TRD sterring wheel, guage cluster looks nice aswell )

can you give us a video of the unsteady idle. might need a good set of sparkplugs (did you change them over when you swapped the engine over?)

I'll post a video when i get a chance - The plugs that was in the engine were still in good condition although the gap was a little much, so I regapped it, which didn't help the idling issue. I'll try a new set for the heck of it to see if it makes any difference.
very nice interior! nice trd steering wheel, and i like that custom metal plate you made for the dash, your celica is so AWESOME!. how did that conversion of the km/h to mph gauge work. care to explain how you did that??

I kept the original middle gauge - just swapped over the other two from the beams tach
ya i see that but how did you get it to convert from km/h to mph. did you buy some sort of converter?? Becuase if you seen malpaso new gt-four he has his original km/h gauge but has it converted to read mph..

i think the question is if the speed sensor on the tranny should interpret kms, and will be sending km units to your mph speedo. Therefore adding more miles than it actually is. unless the speedo is the one that interprets the actual distance.

that was something that i was thinking off. have you actually noticed if the speedo is running and adding numbers appropiately?

It seems to be reading right, but can't say for sure - I guess I can use my GPS to confirm -. I think the tranny speed sensor interprets RPM - and the speedo convert that into MPH - (correct me if i'm wrong, but thats my guess.) I'm not using any sort of converter. using the original ST204 electrical housing along with the original middle piece. I remember reading on the mr2.com forum beam section that the same question was ask relating to how you convert to MPH and one of the guys who's done the conversion simply said just use your old one - so I never second thought about that since it works. I guess I could use the beams center piece and read it in KM/H, but the original one was easier to understand.

I'll take it for a spin in a bit with my gps to confirm how acurate it is.

----

Ok just took it for a spin with GPS - it is accurate - cruised around at about 20 MPH and GPS read it as so, tried 30MPH then 50MPH and it was accurate - didn't go any higher since didn't want to do more than that in a residential area.

After seeing more pics, I LOVE your car...clean, OEM interior with a few upgrades, but nothing major. Spoilerless and clean, and I like the black license bezel as well. Very well done. thumbsup.gif

cool, that resolves the speedo issue..

just to clear up some things, the speedo (in the cluster) interpets the signal given by the speed sensor on the tranny.
If you have a uk cluster, it will read in kph, and that's where some guys use a "converter/delimitmer" to change the signal on the cluster to read in mph and use an mph dial.

Noberto, on a side note, I've noticed you've been asking a few questions on some other forums lately...I have all the answers your looking for wink.gif
