the only air bypass line left on the back of the motor, for the PS idle up valve:

a couple of brackets i modifyed, they both normally have throttle cable stays on them, but we dont use them when we swap.
this one is for the idle up valve and charc. canister lines:

and this one is for the map sensor line:

and finally, the lower oil pan:

Manny, you went above and beyond with this swap. This is truly the way you are supposed to put together a car. No rush and and meticulous with every bit of piece.

nothing really to show thats pic worthy over the past couple days, yesterday i powerwashed the engine bay, and replaced the radiator support.
today i started masking things up for paint, im hoping to have it sealed tommorow at least and have it painted by wednesday. thursday i wont have time to work in the garage, so friday will be putting the engine bay back together, and the the motor should go in on saturday. smile.gif also got the new TRD wing from vincent today, the carbon work is VERY nice. wayyy better than the ones that chrisc made for us back in the day.

a pic of the bay after replacing the rad. support:

a funny pic i took yesterday;

and for the hell of it, a pic of some carbon, baby..

nothing really pic worthy over the past couple days, just reinstalling everything into the bay.
i reinstalled all the a/c lines ( i had removed them when i rebuilt the 5s last year), and used the gt-4 condenser, since it looked better than the other 2 condensers i had in the garage..lol
also installed the heat exchanger, pump and lines.
had a change of plans, so i worked today, no work tommorow.
saturday it goes in. thumbsup.gif

today is the first day of the rest of my life.

lol..the big day is here!
im about to go out and do the lower oil pan gasket, and clean and paint the tranny.
dustin is coming by to give me a hand dropping the motor into place later this am, we're planning on having it all in and mostly hooked back together by tonight, so that i can button the last of it up and have her running tommorow.
pics later!!

this thread makes me happy

Everything is connected, motor is running, we spent prolly 4-5 hrs diagnosing a "spark issue"...only to figure out I crossed a couple wires when I installed the cap and rotor. Lol
lots of pics and vids tommorow, hopfully we have decent weather later in the day and the wifey will take it for it's first ride.
Big thanks to Dustin and steff. D was here ALL day, helping out every step of the way.
Steff came thru as usual with the parts hookup, her devilish good looks, and of course the common sense to say after 4+hrs of trying all kinda stuff ...."hey, you sure you just didn't cross a wire or somthing??"
love you steff, your the best.
And of course, most importantly, the wifey, for putting up with me being bitchy from working in the garage for hrs after working all day, and taking great care of our beautiful daughter, while I'm outside working on the car.
There is NO way I could do it without her.
Team JDM guy, in full effect. This is the culmination of years of reaserch, and prolly a hundred or more hours of work between tearing everything down, clean up, paint work, customization, reassembleing everything, and the install.
But without my family, and the friends I've made here on 6gc, it never would have happen.
From Jim, who hooked me up with a great deal on a great clip, to all the people in the "crew" I have helping me out, and to all of you guys who I've had the pleasure of making friends with over the years here at 6gc, I just wanna say thanks.
What a blast it's been, and the best is yet to come!!!

Congrats man. Funny how something so small can cause such a big issue. Glad you guys figured it out. ENJOY!

>Congrats man. Funny how something so small can cause such a big issue. Glad you guys figured it out. ENJOY!

yup, we went thru EVERYTHING before i checked the simplest thing. we even removed the fuel rail and swapped injectors..lol

a few more pics from yesterday.

tranny painted:

the comp clutch from dr tweak i got last year, looks pretty much like it did when i pulled it a few months after the install of the last revision of the 5sfte.

putting the motor in. normally we connect the tranny and install it together, but i didnt want to scratch the bay up after just painting it, so we installed them seperately.

the boot installed onto the firewall:

and now, the basics of the wiring that is required.

first is the interior plugs.

this black wire on the white plug:

is for the clutch start switch. we need to put it to pin 17 on this grey plug:

you can see the #'s for the pins on the back of the plug (sorry for the upsidedown pic, i forgot to edit it)

so i added a pin from one of the 5s harness plugs:

and soldered the connection:

and thats it on the interior.

next up is the EA1 plug in the engine bay.

this pic is the bodyharness side of the gt-4 EA1. the 3 wires on each end are extra wires that need to be used with the swap, along with a couple on the top.

with my 94, the connector for my EA1 bodyharness side was blocked off solid where those wires go, which was diffrent from jims swap. jims 95 had little rubber plugs in them that were able to easily be removed to add pins if needed.

so, we just removed the wires from the 5s bodyharness EA1, and transfered those over to the gt-4 one.
a pic pointing to the 3 wires from each side:

in this pic, the gt-4 plug is on top, the 5s one on the bottom.
basicly, it was as easy as removing the pins one at a time from the 5s one, and installing it into the 3s one.
easy peasy.

and a pic of the pin tool i used to remove the pins in action.

a medium saftey pin also works well.

once thats done, there are 3 wires left over, 2 need power sources, and a white with black stripe gets ground.
thats all there is to it!
lots more pics and vids later. unfortunately, its supossed to rain all day, so the vids will prolly be on the lame side for now..lol
