I just read something in the dyno forum of the beams owners group where dude changed plugs and went from 2.25 exhaust to 2.5 exhaust and went from 177hp to 184 hp..... with Dan having 2 in exhaust......... you tell me what he'll think about it being a pissed off 5s when that gets done haha - get that exhaust done buddy!!!

Ferdi- I mean with the LSD, no understeer yet. It'll be a bit more difficult with the new coils as well. It's a bit worrying to me since I don't know the car'a new limits and I definitely don't want to find them after its too late. If I can get the BEAMS to pull the way I want to, it'll stay in the engine bay.

Boost.

Working on it smile.gif Gotta get that nasty suspension knock cleared up first. Parts are on the way, then I'll be trying to tackle my ever-growing list. I'll check out the dyno thread in a bit, I've mostly ignored that thread.

Nice! I'm not really willing to spend the money to get the before and after figures, but that 1/4" made a big difference. I'll be honest, I've made absolutely no progress towards new exhaust. Right now I'm more concerned with how in the world I'm going to get those poly rear bushings in. I suspect it will be a multiple hour job with many curse words and more than one bloodied knuckle.

Pictures from the meet, just because we were bored and had the time.

Alright, I'm ignoring this thread until I have something worth posting again.

New goodies!

-F1 Lightweight Flywheel
-2.5" Magnaflow Cat
-2.5" Vibrant Performance Ultra Quiet Resonator
-2.5" Vibrant Performance Street Power muffler

It'll probably be loud as hell. I'm not okay with that. I'll probably swap mufflers 3 or 4 times before finding one I'm alright with. I'm currently looking for a factory muffler that has the flow I want but will be as quiet as I like. The BEAMS Altezza muffler would be perfect- it was designed for a BEAMS anyway, quiet as any factory muffler, but has a valve inside that opens up with higher flow to allow a straight through flow. But at nearly $500 big ones to get an Altezza OEM muffler to the states, I'll pass. An IS 300 muffler is the same as an Altezza muffler with the valve setup, but is too big physically for what I'd want. No thank you, 4" tip. Suggestions are welcome.

Anyway, backing up. Last week, I went to install the poly front suspension bushings.

Helper: Check.

New bushings and tie rod ends: Check.

Fan because it's fawking hot: Check.

Four hours later, I promptly gave up due to some difficulties, and took the car to where I work. I had to put new Moog lower ball joints and put them on my tab at Harry's. I overnighted them from Japan and got back to work the next day. Pictures are worth 1,000 words and I'm too lazy to type everything out. I posted it all in Dustin's thread anyway.

I didn't end up putting the tie rod ends in because I spent 12 hours total fighting the lower control arms and didn't feel like wasting any more time. I'll get those put in later. I am currently without front sway bar end links (part of the story I didn't post with the pictures a moment ago.) I've also been too lazy to order the Twos R Us end links, which is just a lame excuse because it's literally more effort to sit here and type this post than it is to go order those. I'll finish those up then get the exhaust fabbed up soon. I'll update later with a "Wow! This exhaust is loud but it really makes the BEAMS feel great!" post.

2 thumbs up! You should invest in a lift for that garage, and rent it out to fellow 6gc'ers.
If it's too loud, changing mufflers won't do too much, just get another resonate put on because those are actually meant to quiet it down

I was thinking about twin resonators and no muffler on my setup- but that'd prolly be more ear ringing than i'd want to put up with anyway lol...

Dan, You'll have to hit me with the parts you ordered from twosrus. Got some lightly dryrotted bushings in my RHD subframe I thought about switching out... but I might also just hit them with soem rubber conditioner real heavy to soften them up... but lmk anyway.

Good stuff. Will have to do all that suspension work myself soon...=/ - This old GT has some noises I do not like.

I like the black/blue situation. Though I love black more, that blue just has a neat accent to it. Would love to see it played out, but I know that would be difficult to do.

It might end up with a second resonator, for real. As I understand it, the muffler determines the tone but the resonators do most of the silencing? I'm hopeless when it comes to exhaust.

I haven't ordered the new end links yet. frown.gif I'm being lazy. I'm noticing some slight body roll that I didn't have before cutting these bushings off, but I never drive the car hard enough to merit anything more than a set of OEM end links. I'm only going with Twos R Us because I'd shoot myself for not upgrading something so easy while opportunity is knocking. And no, the's a USDM girlfriend laugh.gif However, that seat that she's in... How does the lightweight flywheel feel?

Thanks, CB! I haven't thrown the flywheel in the car yet. Maybe if I get brave enough, I'll do it next week. It just kills me to have to order new flywheel bolts when I just bought these last year. I'm too cheap to want to order anything twice, but I know it's necessary. Looks like I'm going on a shopping spree again this Friday, though.

I hope your luck with the bushings goes better than mine! Mine pretty much sucked, but I'll be the first to say that my results aren't typical. Several people have replaced the control arms in their 6gc's and so far as I can tell, my case is the only one that took over 4 hours. PB Blaster is your friend. And thanks for the compliment on the two tone! It's not my favorite setup ever, but at least if the car is two colors, they're two colors that go well together. I've actually had people ask me if I did that on purpose because they think it looks good. That being said, I'm deeply embarrassed by having a multicolor car. It'll be painted as soon as I can stop buying other parts.

Finally done replying. Time for an update!

Crappy pictures but my battery died on my camera died so I was in a hurry. As I thought, it's louder than I was hoping it would be, but not offensively loud. Low end power hasn't changed. Mid range power has improved in the higher gears, and top end has improved all around. But we all know that, because that's what a bigger exhaust system does. The gains weren't huge... Definitely less than 10 hp but now it's loud. It's more responsive now, which is a plus. I can deal with the sound but I'm still considering adding a second resonator. I'll drive it around for a while and see how I like it. I didn't reset the ECU before I went for a drive earlier, so I have it unplugged right now. I'll take it for a drive later and let it learn the new settings.

Here's the biggest plus so far: No more smell! Before, the exhaust always smelled very strong and smelled like it was running very rich. Now, there's no smell at all. Not sure if it's due to the reduction in back pressure or more likely, the addition of a brand new catalytic converter. I might be brave enough to do the flywheel next week but for now, I'm going back to work for the next few days so no more updates.

I think the rear sway mounts were 16mm Energy Suspension bushings, and the front control arm bushings were from http://www.gt4-racing.eu/. I got them from his eBay store and I picked up the rear control arm bushings from Azian Advanced, but haven't had time to install them yet. Conveniently, I have got the knocking to go away, just yesterday afternoon. I put the stock suspension back on. tongue.gif

It is indeed! Vibrant Streetpower muffler and Ultra Quiet resonator with a Magnaflow cat. It's a little louder than I would like it to be but it sounds great.
