well Depending if USPS does it right, Thanks to mike I SHOULD have the car in running order by Saturday... birthday gift to me I suppose... at least I would like it to be. lol

I HOPE the schedule will be as follows,

Thursday: The bearing carrier pressed on and axle on the car with a test drive...
Friday: Wiring completed.
Saturday: Exhaust on.

then besides little minor things, that should really be it...

Wish me luck,
Kevin

oh PS HUGE thanks to Mike for working with me and getting the bearing stuff to me...
My Mechanic was really awesome and pressed the carrier on and didn't charge me. awesome

got everything put on the car! and it goes up and down the road no problems... well a couple small ones. I think there is something pressing on the break disk, like the guard on the back could be bent a little. there is smoke from burning oils and maybe paint. but other than that looks good! no leaks or any thing like that.

looks like Ill have to put off the Wiring till Monday, the guy said he would set it up so it was real plug and play for me which is awesome. the downside, I have to pay the shop the usual fees for 2 hours of work. could be worse I guess. besides that Ill try to get the exhaust on Saturday.

okay, so I ran into another small problem... the car likes to die after driving around for a bit. if I stop at a light, the car idles around 1.25-.75 then suddenly the engine stops. no sputter or anything just completely dies.

I know it can be a million and one things, but if you have any ideas I'm game. my Mechanic didn't get a chance to look at it yesterday and is still holding on to the car so I don't have it here to look at. but if they can't figure it out, its left to me... and I have no clue haha.

hope you can help!
Kevin
your mechanic can be the God's of the mechanics, but you shouldn't let him try to figure this out, if he can't find the issue, you'll get a car back that has been played with and as much as we would like to help you, we won't know what he adjusted, moved, replaced, disconnect, so it'll just make the whole torubleshooting part harder than it already is.

my first advise would be to get the car back, then people will start giving you suggestions and everything will be documented here, so if someone else comes in, can check what you have tried and suggest new things based on that.

that happened to me after i connected the o2 sensor, that i had forgotten. I disconnected the ecu and replugged it and it went away, did u use the car without a sensor and then plugged it? ecu needs relearning,

if this is not the case, then check for the pump? fuel pressure,

okay... well I got the car back... finally... anyway with all the gauges working I noticed that the air fuel ratio gauge, Shoots to rich immediately when you press hard on the gas. now I think this is caused by there being only one O2 sensor actually being hit with exhaust, but two being hooked up. btw what O2 senor can I buy to replace the old ones? but the car is still cutting out when you stop. which was a huge pain trying to get it home...

like I said its like you turned the key off... if you own a 3sgte and want an idea what its like... if you pull the vac line off the vac ass sensor, it does the exact same thing...

Kevin
okay! My dad and I did a little experiment... so we let the car warm up till it became hot enough to turn on the radiator fans. the engine died, the fans came on. car wont start, until the fans go off, and it starts with gusto. so I think its something electrical with the fans... any Ideas?

KEvin
okay messed around with it again...

so when the thermostat is unplugged, the fans run, and the engine wont start. if the thermo is in it will start then die when the fans kick in. if you unplug the fans leaving the thermo in it starts and runs. if one fan is plugged in the fans wont run, if both are the fans run and kill the engine... if you in pluged all three the car wont start. the relay is grounded and everything...

any help?

Kevin
okay... so I got my Exhaust on (YAAAAAAY!!!!) it sounds amazing!... Im sure you guys would disagree, but for me its not rice and had a nice warm sound. anyway, so while driving hte car a bit, while I was letting the car cool down, it died... same thing it was doing with the fans plugged in... but they weren't so I'm thinking, since I DIDN'T need the water temp sensor in the ST, and never used the plug... I'm wondering if the water temp gauge I got was wrong and or bad.

so I reach out to you, what water temp gauge do I EXACTLY need to get. Im going to replace it and see what happens...

Thanks,
Kevin
kev, are you talking about the temp sensor in the radiator?
if so, one from any 6gc (GT) will work.

*sigh* yeah I bought one... but i donno man... everything seems to lead to that damned thing...
I'm about done with the damned thing. I can't figure it out. its not the temp sensor

could something be different between the ST body wiring and the GT/4?
Hey everyone, so the car seems to be running really rich, you just tap on the gas and the A/f gauge jumps to full rich... what can cause this?

Kevin
until the car is fully warmed up, it will be richer than normal.
are you using a wideband o2 sensor?

Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)13.6@108MPH, 5SFTE Powered
well this is when its warmed up, like its non stop full rich when your foot is pressing on the gas. speaking of o2 sensors. should I be using different ones for the ST ones? or are they all the same?

Kevin
okay, so a friend of a friend of my dads, who is really into MR2s and Toyotas, said that I should try jumping the EFI Main Relay. interestingly enough, after about 10 minutes the fans kicked on and the engine stayed on. they ran twice before I shut the car off and put the relay back on.

so, what I guess this means is when the fans come the relay gets the signal to move its switch to the other side (ground?) causing the engine to die. I'm taking the engine over tomorrow to this guy and he is going to look at a couple of things.

but before that, do you guys have any Ideas as well?
Kevin
Any update?

Failing to prepare is preparing to fail!
Hey Everyone,

The Car is done, finished, and Driving like a bat outta hell... I've been getting a LOT of confused looks at stop lights lately...

the Car is pretty quiet, even with its 3" exhaust, due to the flow master at the end... I'll try to get some videos up, I still haven't gotten the stupid video of me boosting for the first time from a friend of mine (we've all been busy around here).

If you have any questions please ask I'll try to answer them.

some pictures:
Sorry about the condition of the engine Bay, I'm in the process of cleaning it up a but with the wiring and such. with the air intake, I'm also making the pipe for it so I can move it back to its correct place.

Kevin
Man congratulations!!!! Looks like one hell of a 6gc!! That DP looks meannnn
Thanks man,

and yeah Berk Tech ftw!

Kevin
oh yeah a few small problems...

so when its cold (like early morning or night) the steering squeals and is hard to turn, it also does this just after starting or sometimes turning the wheel while the car is sitting still... I think there might be some air in the lines... I see no leaks any where coming from it and the fluid seems to stay level with what it needs to be. so I was wondering what is the best way to fix this? can you bleed it or anything like that?

also, I put in an oil sandwich and an oil pressure sender in as well.its all wired in and grounded to the body, but it doesn't read... it did for a few days randomly last week. but now nothing again. any ideas?

Thanks
Kevin
for the PS, open the resivour, start the car, and turn the wheel back and forth, lock to lock a few times. (thats how you "bleed" it)
if that dont fix it, the belt probably isnt tight enough, or is slipping.

for the gauge, check your grounds again.

Do you only have to do that once? Because mine does the same.

Depends on how much air was in the lines. You may need to do this several times but keep an eye on the reserrvoir because the level will drop as it displaces the air. If it gets too low it will just airorate [MSP I know] the fluid again. much the same as bleeding the brakes but no valve to deal with wink.gif

im assuming you mean "Emissions" ?
if so, thats awesome!

Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)13.6@108MPH, 5SFTE Powered
haha yeah, E-missions. yeah Just drove up, the scanned the door, plugged the computer in, checked the gas cap, and said I passed... pretty sweet.

on a side note, a Honda dude was surprised and impressed by my Car, as I drove to the emissions place.
