AMP WONT TURN ON! - 6G Celicas Forums

someone please help today i installed my system and for some reaon my amp wont turn on i ran everything the right way, what could be wrong? Can someone help me on this issue what could be the issue or issues? please can someone help me on this, Thanks
make sure your fuse is plugged into the power line. Make sure it isnt blown. Also check the fuse on the amp.

should be:
battery-->fuse--->amp (low gauge)
amp--->GOOD ground (low gauge)
amp---->head unit (rca and high gauge turn on lead)
amp---->subs/speaker (mid gauge)

Make sure its hooked up to the battery post well..

edit: i know this may be dumb but just double check all connections..make sure + is in + and - is in -..ect...

I guarantee you the remote wire isn't spliced into the correct wire behind the head unit.

Agreed as well, most common thing messed up.
If you just touch the power wire to, both the remote and power for a second, the amp should turn on. If not look at the grounds and fuses smile.gif

If all wires are hooked up correctly, check your positive terminal lead. Ground is most commonly the problem, or a fuse.

If you do not have the protectant on the post, there tends to be a white build up.

This will ruin the surface area, and put your amp into protect mode, or simply not turn on. Clean the post, clean the connector, and apply the protectant.
99% of the time you didn't hilltops remote wire up correctly or didnt even run it. Check that. And make sure you have it grounded correctly
my amp is a pioneer it has these following connectors, + power, - ground, and sound control. Where do i hook up the power from the head unit to? also i noticed that were i placed the ground wire i scrapped of the paint real good but the only thing is that the screw that was used there is really rusted could that be it? Or is it the power from the head unit? does the terminals being a little old have to do with anything as well?
Age of the terminals definitely could play a part, all connections need to be clean. I assume that the connection for the remote wire varies on all head units, so I can't answer that. Try to look it up online using the head unit's model number. Did you also make sure to turn your head unit on?

so what turns on the amp? the head unit or the power wire running through battery? my question is the power wire that i connect to head unit where in the amp do i connect that wire too?
there should be a connection for the amp turn on wire on the amp right near the + & - terminals...

The battery supplies power, but the amp will only turn on when the head unit turns on, which is why the remote wire is necessary. And then the ground provides, well, grounding...those are the three necessary wires for operation.

my amp has a + power, - ground and sound crontrol connector and ofcourse all the other ones for the speakers its a 4 channel amp, so the head unit connector should go to the sound control connector right?

what color wires do you usually hook up the remote wire too on the headunit? the blue ones right?
yes the blue one usually used as the turn on signal wire.
can you give me the exact model amplifier you have
the turn on signal terminal is the one to the right of the ground terminal
oh thanks man so like i was saying my terminals on the battery are a little old can that be the problem? also the screw screwed to the ground wire to my cars chasis is a little rusted as well could that be a problem? one more thing i want to mention, my RCA cables has a remote wire attached to them already and thats what i used as a remote, should that be ok or should i just used a different remote wire?
for right now, i would say the grounds should be fine, just see if it works once you hook up the turn on wire. the one that's connected with the RCA cables will work fine
i did and it still doesnt work could the amp be burned out?
is there a light on it that lets you know when its on?
yeah there is a light on there when its on
a way to test and see if it works is to hook up a +12v source to it to see if it turns on. if i could visually see everything, I could easily tell you the problem, and it sucks that i cant. try that test and see if it even turns on
ill try and take some pics later and post them see if that can help a little better

so if that doesnt make it turn chances are its burned out?
not necessarily because something else could be wrong.
I'll give you a set of "IF's" right now:

If it does work with the +12v source, then something is wrong with your head unit.

If it DOESNT work, then you should clean up all your grounds.
If that still doesn't work, then check your inline fuse to make sure it's still good.
If that still doesn't work, then check your wires (especially the power wire from the battery) to make sure they didn't rip or tear during installation.
And after all that, if it still doesn't work, then it's the amp.
If it's the amp, check the fuses on it.
If the fuses are fine, then get another amp.
If the new amp doesn't work, then something is utterly f***ed up with your car lol

im hear to help you outt, I had the same problem the first time I was wiring in my subs to my old car (except my problem wasn't as in-depth)
Where did you get this amp?
its mine i had it on my truck and now i want to hook it up in my car
no im actually at work right now i will mess with it later when i get home i did clean the terminals on the battery and will mess with it later
