>i put the latches where jim wanted them, also where i thought they would work best.
i wanted to mount the pins in the radiator support like normal, but it dont work with these latches.
definetly have to drill the other 6 holes as well, ran out of garage time before i could, aerocatch supplies machine head screws and locknuts to hold them in, but thats not gonna work here, so i think im going to rivet them in place with aluminum rivets, and then paint the heads black.

Could you do me a favor, and somehow take a vid of you doing the rivets? Someone suggests using rivets, because theres no way I can get the lock washers/bolts to work either; but I have no clue how to do it.

If not, I understand... I'm sure I could youtube a demo or something. tongue.gif

i cant promise vids...but you know me, i try and take lots of pics.
installing rivets is very easy, just drill the hole, install the rivet, and squeeze the trigger on the rivet gun. smile.gif

Manny, can you get some shots of the hood latches and how high they sit above the hood? They do look really sexy though...very nice.

Also, do you think they'd look good on a 6gc...and how would you place them to go with the 6gc's hood?

Thank you for everything manny and as always your work is perfection

>Another ???; whats the deciding factor for you where you mount the pins on the frame? Strength/Location? Look/Convenience? I know this was on a 5th gen hood, but the 6th Gen has too many bumps and curves in the area that should have the hood pins mounted...
I have an idea of where I'm going to mount mine though... I just hope the hood is forgiving enough to let me put them there.

I don't see where you could put these on a GT4 hood - I had a hard enough time placing my pins on my GT4 hood so that they don't pop through one of the light humps or the center bulge.

same as above.

You guys can look at my recent hood install for pics of where mine went - that's the only decent looking place I can think of.

The 5th gen has a fairly smooth hood - superb install P - as always biggrin.gif

It all looks really good thus far but i have to ask, why didn't you guys power wash/clean up the engine bay before the swap?

jim didnt have time to touch the car before he brought it to me, and this engine will be coming back in not too long for a built motor setup.
all that stuff will get done then, im just getting paid to do the swap and get this one running for now.
we're hoping to get jims bay looking like the last swap we did in the JDM Guy Garage wink.gif :

Cause alot of us don't like the look of CF and a clean black car shines in ways no other car does. Take it from someone with a really shiny black car that had an off-color hood - it never looks as good as an all black car does

Looks awesome, I bought those same hood pins but the CF ones. You can do what my buddy did to his hood, he added some black into the clear when he re cleared his CF hood. Cant even tell its CF until you get right up to it and hold like a light to it. it looks awesome.

>in this cold weather how do you manage to paint?

i've done it in the garage in the winter before, but it takes forever, cause i have 2 kerosene heaters that i use for heat.
on days where its below 35-40*, it takes a couple hrs before the garage is 50*+.
so i would go out to the garage first thing start the heaters, wait a couple hrs, then go out, shut them down, then paint, then restart them.
super dangerous, because of all the overspray, and then i'd have to run the heaters for another few hrs while the parts dry.. not really cost effective, or safe.
rudy @ the maaco offered to paint them for me for the same price i would have charged jim (150$ for the bumper and hood) so i just brought the parts to him and had my boy mikey paint them.

so, i finished up bunch of stuff on the car this weekend, finished the hoodlatch install, removed the upper bumper support and removed a bunch of broken bolts, reinstalled that and the bumper, fit and trimmed the heat sheild, installed that, and made a couple brakcets to hold the fuse box, and installed that.

some pics of the progress.

hood latches installed. in this pic, the hood is not closed, obviously.

Wow.

yea, it fills the opening in the CS bumper nicely i think smile.gif

as it looks right now, jim and crew will be coming up ~the 5-6th of febuary to pick it up, and drop of the built bottom end and a stock 3rd gen for me to start working on.

for now, just a couple little things to finish up, (make an intake, install a boost controller) and i should have plates for it by the end of the week.
once i get them, ill get some rolling vids.

This is moving along nicely and the rolling videos will definitely be frighteningly inspiring.

If I saw this 5th Gen on the road I'd probably crash ogling it. thumbsup.gif

I can help you out making the rolling video because I have two cameras and editing software on my laptop.
It would also make a good addition to my college portfolio smile.gif

Alright that sounds great!
that CF hood sure looks like the ones that i had made. I sure wish that company didnt screw me over. they were a perfect CS hood since my actual CS hood was used for the mold

I want to thank you for showing how you solder those large terminals/connectors. I never would have thought about it! I just redid the connections on my power and ground cables for my amp, and it looks a million times better!
oh yes, Pat did get one from me but it was damaged in shipping, i dont know if anything was worked out in that deal. i cant remember now if that was the final one to go out.
