i am awesome
check the 2bar map sensor.. do they go bad?
Atleast you guys can drive your cars. Mine won't start, so I've yet to find out if I can go over 4k or not. Did you guys have Mike do your harnesses too? Just curious, wondering how many other people had their's done by him.

I did it myself but Mike provided the diagram to which i did it, so its according to how he does it. I've asked Mike about it and he said ignition problem and perhaps something with the tach, but he doesnt really know. I was HOPING a cold solder, but now that he has the same problem...i dunno.

I have a rev/speed meter, and when it approaches that point where it cuts off, the tach stays a constant 4000-4.5K but the RSM gets lower as it gets closer. Its weird.

And XS, did you do a spark test to see if your even getting spark? You gotta eliminate it one by one, fuel, spark and oxygen create combustion. So check ur fuel pump, ur solenoid, ur distributor, ur AFM. Mine didnt start the very first time but its cuz i was missing the solenoid...after that it started right up.

Only thing is you have an MR2, which is like a 91-92 3sgte, i have a 92/93 3sgte, and yes they do differ in wiring.

hmm....I am not sure but can it have anything to do with the AFM....
guys, talk to thats_right on celica.net. i remember him having the same problem and he got it fixed. before he fixed it he said that he thought it was the dist cap and rotor, but im not sure if thats what it was in the end.

hey guys i gotta idea has anyone added a boost-a-pump or a high pressure pump cause the 5sfe runs a lower pressure then the 3sgte and it only happens at high rpms
-thedevilmaycrie+Dec 10, 2003 - 10:24 AM
It happens at 4 - 4500 RPM's which, for the 3sgte, is low because max hp is at 6.

And what is happening is a complete halting of the engine, how can the fuel pump work fine sub-4 and doesnt work at all above? I dont get it ?

Also, i've replaced the dist. cap, ignition coil, and spark wires, and plugs, no effect.

I never had a problem like this before with my straight 205 but now that I am doing the 185 topend on the 205 block I will need a harness done, and have been thinkin about havin mike do it.. I'm really curious if its something to do with how the harness is done or is it just a coincedence..

what PSI of boost is your cars at when it shuts down.. stock 3sgte will do a fuel cut a 16 psi ( I think thats when it is ) that could possible be your prob >smile.gif>

99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
I think its 12psi max and mines running 8.5 right now. It wont go over in neutral or driving.

The check engine lights does come on when it happens, but goes off right after...so I'm gonig to check the codes to see what the ecu is telling me.
Ne body know the website that lists 3s ecu codes?

super mine is doing the same damn thing with the check light im leaning toward my suggestion of the fuel pump
Check ur engine code see if it tells you anything

No, I don't have an MR2 motor. It's out of a ST185. Thanks for the tips guys...we're checking...
well, i dont know if anyone remember or not, or even cares for that matter, but i am having issues with getting mine started.

my motor is from a jdm st185, and i know i'm missing the EFI solenoid. BUT NOT ANY MORE.

Despite all the bad rap that ToySport gets and all, and i know for a fact that they are a bunch of pricks, i was down to my last resort, so i called them up about the solinoid, and joel said that he had one. This was yesterday. Today at lunch time, i went over there, and long behold, he had one. He gave it to me for $50.

So now i just have to hook it up and hopefully my car will start.

*preys*
Yeah thats where i got my solenoid, and i had to deal with Joel too, but he did keep calling me back to make sure he had the right part.

And my engine is an JDM ST185 3s too.

ok i gotta possible solition a guy i met had the same damn problem.... well its not actually a "solution" but it makes the problem go away.... when he did his swap his boost controler was set to scramble so he reset it to stock or off and it went away he lost power but it would run ..... now i have no idea how to set the boost controler hell i didnt know the 3sgte stock had a controler if anyone knows how to set it or such lemme know

Huh? I have never heard of a stock boost controller, and why didnt u ask how he did it?

I've unplugged my battery and everything usually taht resets the ecu but it hasnt gone away.

Also, my car is running stock boost, i have a gauge and it shows 8 - 9 depending on how hard its being pushed.

try getting a fuel pressure gauge and hooking it up to see if you are fuel cutting. at 4krpm

1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition@gt4.wrc on Instagram
Yeah i was going to be getting one with my Lotek 3 gauge pillar so this should help. I'm going to get the ecu codes soon.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
I'm going to try to read the codes this afternoon...
this problem must be fixed by spring.

Hey just curious, you guys that are missing parts...i'm assuming you didn't buy a clip? Because it just wouldn't make sense to be missing parts if an entire clip was purchased. Ya got me all worried is all, that's why i'm asking.
-XSTeknique+Dec 12, 2003 - 12:10 PM
my clip had everything from the wire harness to all the vacume lines
Yes, I can vouch for the damaged parts. Jarco sent me a nicely fried ECU. No dis on the company though, they've been great nonetheless.
UPDATE: read the codes outta my ecu, 14 and 35 is what i got. Now theres a chart on alltrac.net that says 14 is "no IGF signal to ECU 8-11 times" and 35 is "Open or short ciruit in pressure sensor". Now I think these codes are for the ST165 however the absense of a IGF signal would make sense, its what Mike was saying also.

The pressure sensor, well we dont have them in our stock cluster so thats always going to be a problem, but the IGF i think is the problem. It would account for my weird problem with the RSM.

If you'd like to check ur own codes, use a paper clip and stick one end in the E1 and one end in the TE1 in the diagnostics box in the engine compartment. If you wanna double check ur codes against mine it would probably pinpoint the problem.
