Whats your tire size? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #9089 117 posts Started by BlackCelicaGT94
I'm considering buying a set of 16x7 rims that would come with 245/50/16 tires... These should fit on a Celica, right? (my car is lowered, in case that matters).

edit: my current tires are 205/50/15... I like the comfort, but not the handling.

can 245/40/18 and a 9 inch wide wheel require a lot of modifications to put on as my car is lowered 1 inch , please help as i might have just got ripped off by someone who vouched it will fit

what's the offset? (it should be stamped somewhere on the wheel, usually on the back of the spokes.) it's gonna be hard to fit them. you'd need an offset somewhere around a 25-35, probably about 30. Then, you're wheels are gonna stick outside your fender about 10-20mm so you'll need to roll the fenders. it also might be much easier to fit with a 245/35/18 tire.

The offset on the rims I was asking about is 38 if that matters.

i believe they should fit.

with my old wheels which i think are a 30-35 offset? maybe even 28 im not sure..

i mocked up a 235 35 18 tire and it fit very well, i was gonna get some 235 40 18's and rock them

245 40 18 will come close up front, but i wouldnt see any problems as long as you arent smashing bumps while turning

you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!(2:27:32 AM) edit: please f*cking work, f*ck, sh*t, piss(2:28:08 AM) edit: that did the trick
i have 185/70/14 the factory size tires.
on the side panel of the door it says cold tire invlation should be at 29 in front and 29 in the back, would 33 psi in the front and back do anything to the tires

look on the side of the tire for the max inflation pressure and don't go past that! if you notice the tire starts wear more on the middle than on the side, then it's got too much air. anf if it wears faster on both sides than the middle, it's under inflated. (if it wears on only one side, you need an alignment)

they should fit. maybe some slight rubbing on the fender plastics but no big deal.

you can fit a 225 on a 7 inch wheel. just not any wider. I had a 6gc come into my work the other day with 225/50/15's on the stock GT wheels. that's the tire size I was gonna run so I could get better traction with my 5sfte before I got the 17's and did 225/45/17's on a 8 inch wheel.

225/40 18" although the rims are 8.5" so i could run a 245 or bigger, but this keeps the right rolling diameter.

To you guys with the 225/45/17, why do you like it as opposed to the 215/45/17?

I have the Scion TC wheels, and I'm wondering if it's worth the extra money to get the 225's. What's the advantage of these as opposed to the 215's? I know the bigger tires will cost more, and I'm trying to save as much money as possible at this point.

wider and slightly taller tires. the width for getting good traction and handling, the taller tire for better ride quality and less of a chance of bending your new rims...

Sounds like a plan then.

I'll be going with the Sumitomo HTR Z III tires, 225/45/17. I get them at my work for $350 a set, with road hazard and lifetime balance. biggrin.gif

EDIT: Also, can anyone show me up close pictures of that tire size on their car? I want to see if clearance would be an issue for me, as I'm lowered 1.5" all around.

I had 215/45 r 17 but they were stretched across an 8 inch wheel, the 225 is just right width wise... I have noticed more stability in cornering and reduced road noise.
Mine are 17x7, will this be an issue?
it should be fine, make sure you get a tire with a stiffer sidewall though or you could end up with a little roll...

Ok, the Sumitomos have a pretty stiff sidewall from what I've heard, but what do you mean by a "little roll"?

This is good to know because I've got 17s too and have been trying to figure out what a good width would be (7.5" wheel I think though). The road noise is KILLER for me right now, not to mention my 205/45r17 (there now I'm on topic) tires basically just SUCK anyhow. What tires do you have/from where/cost?

I was lowered on Tein S-techs with no problems. but, sumitomo's? all I need to say is you get what you pay for. I had Dunlop Direzza DZ101's. still a pretty inexpensive tire, but are still a really good tire from a good name brand. another good tire around that price range that I was considering is the BF goodrich G-force sports. I've never heard a bad thing about them from all the people that I've talked to that have had them.

one time at my work we mounted some 245/40/17's onto 17x7 wheels for a brand new '08 WRX. Not only was it incredibly difficult to get that tire to air up, it looked like total crap! the tire hung out past the edge of the rim by a good 3/4 of an inch. which is what the other guy meant by "a little roll". but a 225/45/17 will fit on a 17x7 no problem, it might look a little wide for the wheel, but not too bad. it would look just right on a 7.5 inch wheel, and is the minimum recommended width for an 8 inch wheel.

if you want a stiff tire get some bridgestone potenza's wink.gif

I have Falken fk452's I had Falken 512's loved em both... bought at Americas Tire in Tanasbourne because they had the best price...

The 512's are now the 912's and I have a set on my wifes xB, the good thing about the 512's and 912's is they still come with a warranty...
