Ran my 3sgte at the track - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #15777 300 posts Started by DG_Performance
I finally got to the track to run the car.
I babied it off the line(i got the 5s tranny) and i am only running 13 psi with 18" tires but overall i had good times.
1/4 mile times were at 14.4 and 14.5 the whole time
top speeds were 97 and 98 mph
i think if i run it again i am gonna put the stock 15" rims on and turn the boost to about 16-17 and see what happens!

I think 13's are easily within reach!

Very nice, I went to the track with friends but didnt bring the car, im afraid of blowing the tranny.

16 & 17 is pretty high becareful.
Do you have an upgraded clutch?
What kind of upgraded turbo are u running.

this run was with the stage 1 exedy clutch and stock turbo
the tranny has been great for me so far .... crossing fingers for the long run!
stock ct26 turbo.. you're not gonna see much gains after you boost it past 10 psi or so
why do you say that? do you have a 3s?
i feel a huge diff from 10 psi to 15 psi so i dont know why you would think that....
i would raise boost to 15 psi, maybe add race gas and raise it to a tiny bit more than that... but ive never heard anyone boost more than 15 psi on stock ct 26. i raise my boost from 10 to 14 psi and i loose traction like crazy... so practice before you hit the track.

good job dave!

Be sure to throw in some C-16 in that bitch.

wow, I figured that the celi would run faster then 14.5-14's ... but I guess the whole front wheel kills it.. that almost makes me not wanna do the swap, dosnt seem like its worth it..
wow...14.4- 14.5 is good...
at what rpm did you launch?

[color=#FF0000] I MISS MY RED BABY =(
I have a buddy with an mr2 who pushes 18psi on a stock ct26 and runs a 13.6. That turbo's gonna be shot soon

You guys, be realistic. He's running the stock setup with a front mount. He hasn't even upgraded the turbo yet. How many cars do you know run 11's. You have no idea what a low 14 sec car feels like. Low fourteens are a good time for a low modified swap. He's running stock tires and it's his first time at the track. With slicks he'll run mid to high 13's which is pretty damn quick. Nice Times Dave. You'll creep down there.
What you guys watch fast and furious? You do realize most all ur cars run 16+s?

First, he has a tranny with weak, short gearing, so like he said he babied it he didnt launch hard. Now if u've run ur car youll quickly find out how important your launch is.

Secondly what does "your not going to see much gains after 10lbs on the CT26? Where the hell did you get this information from? Does all of a sudden the CFMs decrease after 10lbs? Does ne body actually know what CFMs actually mean or how they effect the turbo or are you looking at just pressure, which means less.

Dave, I think you should boost up to 15lbs, with 15's and see what happens and if the track isnt to far away maybe launch at 2.5-3K.

i dont expect my car to be fast. i just did the k&n becuase i got a good deal and needed a new filter, im gettin exhuast work done for a better looking muffler, a bit more pep in the high rpms, and a better sound. i wont be sinking more money into my engine besides that. correct me if im wrong, and i might be, but after a certain amount of power with fwd wouldent the tires just spin. so bascailly if u had a 600 hp fwd celica vs a 320 hp wrx wouldnet the wrx whoop up on the celica, becuase he wouldnet even spin his tires? (or alot)
Dont boost to 15 untill you have a tranny than take the abuse. But the swap would still be well worth considering we all spent on average what.....8500 on our cars (spending 3k more is like 12000)thats a good number for stock 14'. I can understand both sides...a swap at minimal mods runs 14's while SuperSprynt said we run 16's if that both on stock motors(close too). spending 3G's on a swap gaining 2+ seconds is what you would expect slightly from a turbo/supercharger slap on(spending about the same) but in DG's case the motor can handle it (minus the tranny). At the same time I can also sympathize with having a stock 5SFE/7AFE and having to order a clip wait and wait then spend more time getting it in and wirring the bitch then needing a new tranny(maybee new mounts) only to run in 14's. But do you guys actually know what driving in a 14second car fells like, I drove my friends SRT-4 for like an hour a week back and it had intake, and B.O.V. and she ran mid 14's and that was a very very fun ride, being able to flick off Mustang GT's on the highway. Anyway 14's is a very nice number, but i see for the trouble it may not be worht it for some people.

Remeber stock EVO's and STI's run 13.6's!!

a swaped celica is not the fastest thing in the world. but it is a quick, fun to drive car, and a million times better then a modified GT or ST.

also, having the 3sgte, opens you up to a whole new world of upgrades. with my 5sfe i felt like i went as far as i could go with an intake and an exhaust upgrade, but now that i have a 3s, i feel the sky is the limit.

11 and 10 second cars are very very hard to goals to reach. 90% of alltrac and mr2 owners never reach that level.

and remember, a swaped 6th gen is faster the a stock alltrac.

shid, i wish i could take you for a ride in my car at 10psi and then crank it up to 15psi.... i think that would change your mind.

That's awesome Dave! >biggrin.gif>

And yeah, mid-14s are pretty quick. >smile.gif> What a lot of you may not realize is that even though it's a fourteen second car, it probably feels faster than that once it's moving. I've ridden in a couple FWD cars that run 14s, and even though they only run 14s at the track because of their traction problems, they are fast, fast cars...once they're moving, both of them feel really fast. I bet that both of those cars(Both Civics, one with a turbo B18-something and one with a built H22A) would beat an EVO or an STI from a roll. >smile.gif>

Dave, what were your sixty-foot times on your runs?

New Toyota project coming soon...
looks like iam gonna have to finish up the last few things on my car and break 12s for you guys.... sure you can buy a camaro, add 150 shot and intake and headers and break 12s easily, but someof us like our celis and its why we do this..... for a fast car, i would get LS1 camaro on spray, and it would be automatic not stick....

Thanks to celica3sgte, super, xxx, 5sfeturbo, lagos and a few others for all the support. Some of you other guys must not read the full posts or something???

3sgte at 11-13 psi, 5s tranny, 18" regular street tires, and taking it easy off the start should explain it all here but ...... some of you dont realize what all this means!!!! I never launched it, unless you consider starting off at 1500 rpm a launch?

by the way for those of you who keep knocking on the boost levels: i have hit 17psi in my car and it will hold there with the stock turbo so it is very possible to run higher boost but....i just dont trust it to run it that way. and like someone else said.... the turbo wont last as long at such a harsh boost.

everyone has a right to an opinion..... but i would rather take advise from someone with first hand experience on these issues, than people thinking they know the facts.

gains might drop as boost is increases but the key word here is "gains".... you are still gaining power until you hit the point where more boost is = or less than lower boost hp!!!!! right? do you see to point here?

basically if I say just to prove a point:
12psi =225 hp
13psi =235 hp
14psi =245 hp
15psi =255 hp
16psi =257hp
17psi= 260hp
18psi= 260hp

17 psi is where i would stop gaining so that is where the turbo is maxxed out at!!!!
so there is no point in going to 18psi ... but there is still 2hp diff from 16 -17 so there is still a gain even though it is very minimal. this is what we people with swaps are trying to tell all you other people who are confused or dont understand.
hope this clears up some issues,
dg

CT26 Efficiency
Read
Read those. You have pitted efficiency against gains. Now your saying that the 3s wont see much gains after 10psi because the CT26 is past its prime efficiency. This is a generalized and subjective statement. What do you mean by much gains? Thats where the subjective part comes in. Your opinion of "much gains" can be different that anothers. But the efficiency of the CT26 increases or decreases with factors like ambient pressure, intercooler etc. etc. Now the STOCK intercooler will allow the CT26 to work fine until 15lbs, and it will not stop producing any sort of gains until after that. Then the problem of hot air can come into play and a more efficient intercooler is needed to cool down that air.

WE ALL WIN!!! Lets focus on the 1/4 mile time. >tongue.gif> Come on guys its all Love.

yeah shid, i know what you are trying to say, but having a theory and owning a 3sgte are 2 different things.

dave, i wouldnt run your car at 17psi. there are a lot of guys that go to the tracking with this type of thinking and dont make it home. haha

id say 15psi max.....later model mr2s had fuel cut raised to 16psi on the same 2nd gen motor, so you should be ok up to that point but not boyond it. also, see if you can buy race gas before running it again...

oh, and scan your time slip for us!
