I think they were talking about that piece. The GREEN ARROW

I didn't cut mine and it's smooth. I might hack it out tomorrow and see if there is a difference...

for the plastic tabs, that might have just been mine, cause i did the evo lancer one. The tabs that sit under the shift linkage, in the housing, right after the clips. The hold the linkage up a lil bit so it bends, but the 7th gen could be dif. I know that mine was sitting to low an bending.

Which made it hard to shift. like it was workout putting it into gears.. an i drove liekt hat for 3 weeks.. >rolleyes.gif>

it is the white plastic piece that is under the right cable. Some people needed to cut it, I really didn't need to at all. I cut it just in case it was/would rub the cable, I felt no difference after I cut it.

if you have any questions, post them up >wink.gif>

also, make sure you replace your stock rubber spacers with the purple ones provided, I think that is the reason I do not rub (the new ones make the assembly sit higher).

What does that plastic piece do? like what is it for?

Do you have a pic of where those spacers go?

Thank You!

it is just a part of the assembly, no specific reason why

no, if you follow the TWM pdf instructions I posted, it is kinda step no. 7. There are 4 bolts that hold the assembly to the car chasis. The bolts are 14mm I think and the spacers are just big washers that go in between the big plastic assembly and the car. After you remove the bolts and put in the new shifter, before you put the 4 bolts back in put the new round purple metal spacers in the place of the smaller rubber ones that are already there (between the assembly and the car chasis)

Jaws, don't worry, it is easy. Most people do this in less than an hour. I believe in you, you can do it.

Nope I had to cut mine because it was like a workout shifting mine too.

Batman, yea I took the rubber spacers out and it didn't make a difference still had to cut the plastic piece.
Shifter arrived - installation as soon as I get my Celi from the bodyshop.

Im thinking about taking that TWM shortshifter install guide and basically copy it over for a new how to, and just label it as how to "install TWM shortshifter/ generic 7th Gen shortshifter" And then add an entry in the parts database for a Generic 7th Gen shortshifter since this works so well. I got mine last week and am doing it right after I finish getting my compustar alarm hooked up.
still seems to me that the 6th gen TWM shifter is shorter then your "custom" hack job. 7th gens have longer shifters and need more room so overall you want short shifter buy tthe right one for the car.

It may not be as short as the 6th Gen TWM shifter, but it really isnt a custom hack job whatsoever. The only modification you need to do is if you use the evo shifter. The 7th gen shifter requires no extra modification. Heres the summary:

1) Buy an inexpensive shifter for a 7th gen celica
2) Use 6th gen TWM short shifter installation manual

Thats it....it goes in just like the 6th gen shifter, you do absolutely nothing different than the 6th gen TWM manual says to do

What "custom" hack job are you talking about ? The shifters are virtually the same.

I have tried shifting with the TWM and compared it to my 7th gen, and the 7th gen actually had a shorter throw. Ask Art (lagos), he agrees. Have you tried them both side by side ? I have.

that's like saying your antenna is a hack job, get one made for your car not made for a Honda. You dig what I am saying ?

Did you guys grease up your shifter cups and the ball before you put it in? The instructions say so, so I guess I will have to make a stop and get alittle
Hey batman.. did the caps not fit real well on the 7th gen one? mine were snug.. it seems to shift fine.. but just curious.

Help!!!

Can anyone take a detailed picture or describe how something goes together. I disconnected the left shifter cable from the L shaped piece that connects to the shifter stick, and when i took the pin out that goes through the top of the shifter assembly, that spring that is lodged in there came off and I dont know the proper way to put it back on. Pics would be awesome. Thanks!!!

just wanted to let you all know, thanks for the inspiration. i just recently installed my 7th gen short shifter and runs perfect. didnt cut that plastic piece, but still runs smooth. gonna double check if it rubs though later this morning. thanks again, for all the r&d and time taken to make installing so much easier. late!

Nice!

Yeah IDK why but I had to cut the plastic piece for some reason. The cable drags on it. It works excellent though.
I love my 7th gen shifter...its nice n short n no nuckel smashing on the dash. I fallowed the 6th gen instruction manual to the T, and it worked perfectly. My shifter looks like its a tiny bit higher than the 6gc twm shifter. But i like mine..wasnt gonna pay an extra $50 to get the same results.
ya. i ended up cutting that plastic piece anyways. i notice that it was just barely rubbing, i couldnt slide a single sheet of paper in between the plastic and the rod. anyways, still runs smooth with shorter throws. price vs. performance... this is virtually unmatched, lol. late!

It was yes... but i have a Greddy Counter balance shift knob now and the boot just floats beneath it.. It looks good... >biggrin.gif>

Finally I got to installing my shifter and ... disaster - the plastic assembly in my Celi is very much different from the one in the installation manual or on your pictures. E.g. I have two pins on the side (not one) and the small metal rod goes through the stick (not through some plastics around the stick).

Why is my shifter assembly different, any idea? European version?
