PROJECT 6TH GEN<FS: Things up for grabs><Progress>
this is so awesome. i have a friend who's a mechanic who wants to see a how-to article on this, and he's gonna do it for me (for free!) if i get the parts for him. he's always wanted to convert a sweet fwd car to awd, he was gonna do his civic but i guess it wasn't awesome enough >wink.gif> haha nah it was just waaaaaaaaay too expensive, and really hard. but yeah... definitely make a how to!!!

awesome project though, great work! >biggrin.gif>
Dude when you get that done, we should go for a drive. Mine has been a long project but it came as a JDM gt4 w/ a heavily worn engine but she will be back running for thanks giving. So if you need a live specimen to look at just PM me, I don't mine putting her up in the air for you. Also you can check out mines progress here:

Great work man...AWD its all the money wink.gif
update! im a tad confused, i saw this awhile ago st185 and it says you are selling the 3sgte in your profile? if i remember, since i cant see your profile now it was the same engine thats in your conversion. please tell me your still working on this conversion and that you have 2 3sgte's biggrin.gif

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

well the pictures on the first page is of a 3rd gen 3sgte and the link says hes got a 2nd gen 3sgte FS...so i guess he DOES have 2 3SGTEs...wow!

95gtschick: My friend was going to AWD his Civic, he was going to use Honda CRV parts but it was V-tec and made things difficult.

Sorry for going off topic, and can't wait to see you Celi finished!

i have the 3rd gen 3sgte that im swapping into my car now and i also have the 2nd gen 3sgte sitting im my basement. i was originally going to put in the 2nd gen and stick with FWD, but i found a sweet deal on a st205 front clip.

the 2nd gen is going up for sale as soon as i have time to put it in ebay or post it here with pictures.
The race cell in the trunk never looks good. :-(

Not going to try and source an ST205 gas tank ?
I know of a few ST185 gas tanks around.
You could use the stock gas tank if you want
cut out the spare tire hole and hang it under the trunk ?

(just dropping in from all_trac.net:-)

Good luck on the Project !

Regards;

WOW! This is exactly what I want to do to my ST. Any tips for me on how to get started?
as for the fuel cell........dont worry, when im done with it totally. it will look good. what i might do is make a fiberglass sub box to go over the cell. that should hide it nicely.

i already have all of my fuel parts and there just witing to be put in.

thanks ne way. smile.gif

be very creative......
the biggest factor in doing this swap is fabrication skills.
luckily, his dad is a master fabricator.
cant wait to see it finished! smile.gif

JDM guy made me do it.
good luck! as long as you got the parts you should be good...
wish you the best ... If I had all the parts I would do it too.....
one of my good friends is a master fabricator...
first time noticing this...wow
can't wait to see it done. talk about making the 6gc perfect.
if i have all the parts from an st205 that i would need to convert to AWD and a good fabricator, would i be able to do it having a 7afe or 5sfe or would the engine have to be a 3sgte? i just dont know if the engine/tranny have anything to do with it. thanks.

if you have exverything to do it and then you leave a 100/130 hp 7a or 5s in, my friend, you have wasted a car
Sweet project! I can't wait to see it once it's finished! biggrin.gif

New Toyota project coming soon...

yes you would need the 3s engine and tranny

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
technically couldnt the 5s motor work? we use 5s tranny with the 3s in a swap but essentially you could do it backwards with a 3s alltrac tranny and drivetrain fit it to a 5sfe motor. it would be pointless. but unique at the same time. am i wrong?

Your right, but then we'd end up like the Subaru Impreza RS. Underpowered AWD. The 5s is slow anyway. Adding the AWD would really put a strain on the motor and slow the car down a good bit. Most people who've got the cash for the AWD also have the money for the 3s. I doubt you'll ever see a AWD 5s powered Celica.

heh agreed, hence the pointless but unique comment.
