please tell me about speed limiter on Celica??? >rolleyes.gif>
Ehmm....for the JDM cars, all the JDM cars the speed limit is @180Kms >wink.gif> For more information i think we should ask the Japanese Goverment!!! >tongue.gif>
There are people saying that they hit one at 115 and others saying 125, i dunno if it depends on the ST or GT or what. I went to 120 with my GT and was fine. I have an RSM with cuts out the speed limiter on my JDM ecu so ... hehehe

since i'm a ST, I hit 115 but that dosent mean shiet...cause if u dont care about the "big jerk" that happnz around that speed...then ur car will keep goin. I didnt go the fastest I wanted 2 go but teh fastest I ever did though waz like 120-ish an the car waz about (what it looked like) 5,700k-ish...
Moved to engine/performance. >wink.gif>

New Toyota project coming soon...

the actuall limiter is around 115 mph for US-spec 7afe

- In first couple months that I owned my ST - I kept maxing it out at 115

all it does is you hear a jerk - comp cuts of ur fuel - and your RPMs go down like crazy -

-then I got 17" Konig Imagine (have 7 of them - 2 are on garage wall "busted" - 1 spare - 4 on)
and with those wheels it threw off the Speedometer @ around 119

*then I had an accident - almost everything was replaced except the engine block
-and SINCE THEN i've went far more then 115-119

I could've never TEST the true capabilities of STOCK - st - ; because after the repair - the car went to Tuner

shop for mods.... BUT I think that stock ST wouldn't go more then 125mph on regular tires/rims
The speed limiter on my 95 was the rev limiter in 6th gear...I had it going 132 down the highway with stock tires and everything, was into redline...and then on ice one time this winter I hit 135 as I banged off the rev limiter in 5th. So thats that.
What's an RSM and how does it defeat the limiter?
i have a 95 gt and i went 140 >biggrin.gif> and was fine..i was racin my bro prelude.his prelude 95 jdm engine 5 spd and so so.mine was hks turbo and injen intake kit
I managed to remove the limiter for free. All you have to do is cut the speed signal just before the ecu. The only downside is it triggers a CEL.

The limiter is at 111.1mph (GPS verified)
My slightly modded ST will now go 123.9 on level ground with no wind.

I'm out of town for work right now, I'll try to get the ECU pin number when I get back.

when my speedo reads 115, i get the fuel cut at about 4200rpm. i was very tempted to cut the wire and install a switch inline but i rarely hit my speed limiter and i actually see the limter as a good thing.

i wil try to disable it one day and go to the local sheriffs department and see if they can tell me where to go for high speed testing.

We seriously need a 6th gear if we wanna go over 115.
I could only go like 120 in my 95 GT. I spose I could've gone faster if it hadn't been for my friend yelling "dude it's a cop in the ditch"...all of a sudden fuzz buster goes crazy...slam on the brakes. Phew. Maybe I could've gone faster?

hey it worked finally no governer. took a whole 15 min. to do cause i put in a toggle switch so my check engine light wouldn't be on all the time. managed to get my st up to 130 mph before i backed off it. little to close to red line for me.

i need taller gears
i want to see proof of these 130-135 mph runs

i have been in 3 different celica GT's and each one tops out around 120 or so.

One is my 98 Auto
and one was a 94 gt manual
the other was a 99 gt manual

sorry guys i havent had a chance to get a pic. but hopefully next week i will have time to jump on the freeway and get a pic
=d this sound kinda bs but i dunno. i have a 94 gt manual with about 70k miles on it. rev limiter is at 5800 or around there on 5th gear and that's about 120-121 or whatever closer. can't go any faster. I did however went up to 125.. took a while but it was down hill also. maybe the celica get go higher top then that but you gotta remove the gonvenor. I dunno how an ST can go 130 .... need some pic or else i would have to call it BS =D no offense
this is a very busy week for me becasue we are getting ready for a car show at my bosses place but as soon as i find time i will get a pic plus i dont have a digital camera so i will have to wait to get the film back. and yes it took a pretty far distance to get up to that speed. but no bs it will do it
I have a JDM (Jap Import) Celica SS-II (3SGE)

The speedo reads in Kmph (180kmph being the uppermost speed on the dial)

So when I bought the car originallly it would hit the 180 limit and power would die, (Fuel being cut once reaching the 180 mark.)

I put bigger wheels on (18") and got a friend to drive behind me, I managed to get 198hmph. (My dial showed 180 but due to the bigger wheel diameter my speedo was out by a few KM)

I Put a speedo cable convertor onto my speedo cable and this has a gearing system inside a small box which when connected, makes the KMPH dials read out in MPH.

i.e. when my clock now shows that I am driving at 80KMPH, I am actually travelling at 80MPH

We use MPH here in Ireland, so most people who buy a Japanese import here usually spend quite a bit of money by replacing their entire dial cluster and fit a new one that reads in MPH.

Anyway..the point I want to make is this.....

Before I could go to 180KMPH (112mph) before the limiter kicked in.
Now with the converter installed, I presumed that I would hit the 112mph mark and would have the same issue........

Nope....the car went up to 138mph and there was still a little left, I'm sure if there was more road it would have gone another 5mph.

So, in my case fitting this simple device (GBP£100 including post and packaging from the UK) seems to have fixed my limiter issue.

Anyone else come across this?

Yeah, I can barely get my auto ST up to 100 on level ground. I think downhill got it like 105, maybe. I may have been able to go a little faster with the OD off and really pushing it, but I think 110, 115 would have been the very upper limit.
My ST has an dual mode auto and it can reach 115 before full cut off with overdrive off and with it on it can get up to 125-128 before the car losses all power and it starts costing to a stop... Why because I was drafting my bf and also because my car engine had let go doing it...
