Updates:
1. Ram air system almost ready to go, the sealed airbox is made up, the bumper scoop is 50%, the battery is still in the way of the airbox fitting, I have all the bits to move it to the boot but am still figuring out a way to tie down the battery without drilling new holes, there are two holes already there I would like to use but a solid metal undertray would be needed to properly secure the battery to the two holes to the left of the boot (they appear to be factory bunged holes).
2. After driving so many kms with ACIS engage set between 4200 and 4500, It's becoming obvious that on the stock engine a flat spot is created after the initial ACIS engage untill around 5000 rpm, so have set it back to 4800 for now.
Mythbusters @ home!!!!!!:
1. Officially debunked by moi after 1,000kms of driving!!!!
Simota Super Spiral,
Buy at broomfish
"SIMOTA's high speed SUPER SPIRAL creates a vortex air flow to improve air & fuel mixture enhancing your engines performance. It reduces the carbon accumulation in the engine and substantially increases the horsepower to your engine.
SUPER SPIRAL TURBO VENTILATOR blades are made of advanced precision bearing technology (running up to 30,000 RPM). Light weight aluminum alloy design is not only anti-rust, but also has the ability to match your high-revving engine. The blades have special angles to promote extra air flow to the inlet manifold and assist in providing better engine combustion. Experience strong torque during low to medium RPM ranges but also extreme horsepower at higher engine revolutions.
The upgraded fuel combustion can reduce carbon accumulation to your engine. Furthermore, it is environment friendly and greatly increases performance efficiency.
MANUFACTURERS CLAIM:
Improved fuel economy
Instant increase in engine power
Reduction in carbon accumulation to your engine
Minimized air pollution
Enhanced throttle response and acceleration
DIYEasy to install, DIY"
Results:
* Improved fuel economy -- Possibly, Being an intake RESTRICTOR,You could argue that you would use less gas if you could never fully open your throttle (in effect)
* Improved throttle response -- Definitely not, It felt like it needed to take some time for the vacuum to get the blades spinning before power built up, Big performance loss in the lower RPM range was observed, minor performance loss observed in the mid-range.
* Extreme horsepower at higher engine revolutions -- The revvy powerband characteristics of the 3S-GE engine were nowhere to be found with the Super Spiral installed. Power plateaued close to 6000 rpm, 5000 rpm was the last surge. Generally a 3S-GE engine has 3 surges at ACIS, 5000 & 6000 pulling strong to the 7000 redline, the spiral seemed to flatten the torque curve similar to an FE engine at the same time eliminating high rpm horsepower.
* Easy to install, DIY -- The only claim that proved to be true, 2 simple 77mm hose clamps just like any intake joiner or pipe.
The test was done with the original factory rubber intake hose returned, the end of the stock intake hose would have the Super Spiral connecting the pod filter as a joiner for the first 1000 kms and then to be replaced with just a simple 3" abs plastic joiner. The 3" abs plastic joiner turned out to be the performance enhancer in the end.
Net result: $50 for a cool looking paperweight!!!!!
