Go, Mike, Go!

You've got plenty of room in the apartment to build an engine although now I don't have a bedroom to crash in for my trips to MD. tongue.gif

What cams are you looking into for the Beams?

Has no more Celicas
There is always the kitchen floor Brian!

CatCamshafts. They have a duration that apparently doesnt need replacing of the springs n all that

Cat Cams 7107502

Cam duration (IN/EX) @ 0.1mm : 270° 264°
Cam duration (IN/EX) @ 1.0mm : 236° 228°
Cam lift : (IN/EX) 11.50mm 11.05mm

Stock Camshafts per the info thread
Cam duration (IN/EX) - 256°/244° (advertised duration) (Unknown) @ 1mm lift / (Unknown) @ 0.050in. lift
Cam lift: (IN/EX) - 10.5mm/9.2mm

going to contact them soon for a quote.

I'm also curious about camshaft installation with the BEAMS. Since its an interference head, when I am re-installing everything to me it would make sense that the Timing belt would need to be put back on before rotating to re-check clearances.
I'm not sure if removing the head and installing the cams would be easier as to remove the possibility of valve contact with the piston.

There are also some adjustable cam gears floating around, I contacted the seller, but I doubt they are still being made.

Nice, would be interesting to see someone actually mod the beams here on 6gc

Toda have recently released/ or about to some itbs for the 3S, though chances are they'll be a bit pricey

Holy COW those are $2950 USD!!!! They are GORGEOUS though thanks rusty... rolleyes.gif hahaha

Id be better off trying to adapt the 4AG ITBs. There is a adaptor that goes from them to the blacktop, but I am curious how similar the Blacktop manifold connection/portholes are to the Red Top.

Id like to get the Cams done first at least. There really isnt much else Id like to do. If the 4AG ITB adaptor for the Black top can fist the Red top, Ill start looking into a total cost/hassle

I'm sure you've already seen this, but...

Get in touch with Celica_RA45 over there on the BEAMS Owners Group. He makes some awesome, although expensive, bits.

beams build is a perfect fit for your car and man does NA sound oooooh soooo good.
looked up some threads on the BEAMS forum and found some more info for the ITB's

(Also contacted Celica_RA45)
The picture below was posted from a fellow who was concerned about putting ITB's on his Redtopped Corolla.

The measurements Celica_RA45 posted was that his quad manifold is 70mm (and follows the same track as the OEM intake runners) the 4AGE quad TB's are 75mm and the intake trumpets (straight) are 30mm (asked him if he still produced angled ones I saw on an old post)

Id like to see what the clearances for our motor are to the firewall, I doubt it will be much different from this.

Looks cool smile.gif

Now pardon my ignorance, but why ITBs? What are the performance gains / trade offs?

ITBs on a stock BEAMS is probably like putting an intake on a 5S. Sound mod.

actually no, you can push out 10 hp plus 10 hp from a standalone

ITBs also drastically change throttle response and characteristics
Very very very few engines without major modifications actually benefit from ITBs. I've personally seen a few VW and Honda frankenengines benefit from 42-50mm ITBs. (GSX-R, R1, etc)

Usually there's a lot lost in down-low torque. Throttle response IS improved, that is true.

Im trying to decide whether or not it would be more cool factor or if it would benefit more over a SARD intake.
And its hard to judge since I havent seen much(any) documentation on power outputs of them.
If they are feasible to do, and I have some money for them, I will probably do it.

1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situationエキサイティングカーレーシングチーム!march2010 COTM:6GCfeature2014:january2015-2016-2018 COTM
Looks nice...much better than red
nowhere near the same power output and a bit more involved then dropping in a beams, and I am looking at the fastest way to get back on the track.

Since I am not racing...might as well get back to shooting! woot.gif

but as I said...I sick to death of taking pictures of this car, If I go up to CSP I will be lugging around my equipment, so maybe I can get some great shots of some other celicas.

Calendar is coming up soon too, I might take the reigns on that.

BUMP!!!

After seeing you commenting on another thread it reminded me about the planned BEAMS build.... any progress / refined plans? smile.gif

Mostly everything has been sourced for the build except for the EMS which at the moment my best lead is Aaron at ATS racing. All he really needs to button up their PnP EMS for the Beams is a Base tune. All the other odds and ends that will inevitably arise during the swap I will tackle when I get there.

Other than that I just need to motor!

The car is going back to the garage in November, so sadly not much more time with the sturdy ol 5SFE.

Cool smile.gif When you have a bit of time you should write it all up (unless you are waiting for a big reveal) smile.gif

Are you going for a lightweight flywheel too? You didn't mention one a few pages ago when you said you were going BEAMS. And did you end up getting the cams you were talking about?

I am going to be doing a BEAMS build in January so I am watching closely, because you always seem to do stuff right! tongue.gif

how in depth I write up my progress depends on how frustrated I get when I am doing the work hahaha. And its inevitable some things are going to infuriate me along the way.

I am going to go with a lightweight FW. Thank you for reminding me too because I had planned on keeping my 5SFE clutch setup for the motor rather than going with a hybrid setup. I need to look at the differenced and pro/con's of the 5SFE and 3SGE flywheel. I found cams at an OK price, they are mild, comprable to the colt cams for the 5sfe.

I hope I get mine started by then! Ill keep an eye on your build!
