Yeah no, thats why i wanted to make sure before i did anything.

Thanks for your help.

I will be taking delivery of a BEAMS motor this saturday.

The importer drove it up for me to see it in person this past friday. We then scheduled for saturday for them to bring it up to PA...rather than attempt to squeeze it into the Honda Fit.

Also i've been in contact with Scott over at ATS and he is only a couple weeks away from finishing up the GEN4 BEAMS PnP EMS, hopefully fund permitting I can grab that as soon as its ready.

EMS fir the BEAMS will be a huge step! Can you concert to MAP or will it stay with a MAF?

I was thinking of converting to MAP but I just bought a HKS MAF intake today. It's still 50/50 if I will get the ECU now or later on this year. I'm making financial room for all the odds and ends that are bound to come up these next couple months

I guess you're moving up in SCAA classing then? Anyway, wooooo more power!

Not sure if you've done it yet, but there's a company out in Florida, I believe, called FEAL that rebuild shocks for coilovers. Last I recalled, they can rebuild the HKS, TEIN, and a few other JDM ones without having to send them back to JDM land.

I haven't heard of them, I will look them up. I figured I'd have TEIN California do the first rebuild since they had to make new piston shafts. Future rebuilds shouldn't need as much attention. Thanks for the tip man!!

If it adds anything to their reputation, I've also heard of feal coilovers, they're pretty well respected with my Subaru buddies. So its not just some no-name company.

I just looked up FEAL, they seem to rebuild literally every manufacturer EXCEPT Tein hahahahaha
nevertheless they look to be a great resource for coilover rebuilding

At least it's red, so that counts for something.

They cut the fuel line frown.gif I have a spare TPS. Send me your address and I'll get it in the mail for you. The capped off nipple on the back of the intake plenum only came on later spec Redtops, so that's a sign that yours is one of the newer ones. wink.gif

You have a spare? NICE. now I dont hae to Mcguyver it together
is there really any advantage to having a late spec other than being able to say that its a late spec?

I do indeed have a spare. Spare MAF too. I'm not even sure what else I have. Say the word and parts are on the way. The late spec is identical in every single way, apart from that nipple. It's just comforting to know that it's at least one year newer.

Ahhh harness brackets. I need to look at some completed engine images so I can see where everything is placed

Yeah no tranny but I didn't need it anyways since mine is fresh with LSD, cut down on the price. The importer said that the tranny was seized or something of the sort

The injectors are indeed pink IIRC

you didn't get the transmission, but they gave you the transmission bolts haha
You need to put the engine longitudinal

wish there was more time in the weekend to dissect and tinker with the motor a bit more

inside the Intake Manifold

I am unsure if this dent in the oil pan is normal or if its actually damage

looks a little dented.
Remove it, bang it out if you want. Use FIPG to seal it and don't over tighten the bolts, torque them to spec.

I am not an expert in engine installation but I would recommend to inspect, remove and clean out intake manifold and any other item that you need before putting it back so you dont have to pull it while it is in the engine, unless there is some reason you would want to install it as is and try to fire it.

Is there any baffling there that would prevent me from knocking it out?

Thats what I plan on doing. There's no was I would throw in an engine from ebay without tearing it down and checking everything haha

this sucks only being able to work on it on the weekends...

IIRC the baffling is on the belt side, that side should be open.

I hear you about the work! I would work a few hours on the engine every night provided you work day hours.

Question: What kind of HP these engine produce? These are made for Toyota by Yamaha so I assume these were performance engines? ( I don't know much about these engines)

This post has been edited by msk59: Feb 16, 2015 - 9:48 PM
They're like 197 hp with a manual. Think of it as Toyota's answer to the B18C5 in the Integra Type-R, but they never used it over in the U.S. because of lame excuses like the trouble of having it meet emissions etc...
