>>BEAMS v 5SFE(WebCams)
>>Power wise and responsiveness the BEAMS will obviously outperform the 5SFE.
The powerband between the motors was something new to get used to.
The 5SFE got power immediately at 4k and you'd feel it. The dyno graphs show a sharp spike right at 4K. Since the BEAMS should have more of a gradual curve I don't feel a significant push till around 5.5k. This is a biggie for me since with autocross I may have issues with keeping my RPMs up that high in certain areas on the courses, but I will see for sure when I go race.
The higher power band in the BEAMS may be affected by the 4-1 header setup I have which is a design more suited for higher rpm power while the 4-2-1 is more mid range. I also now have a lightweight flywheel on the BEAMS so that softens that low down power feel that the 5SFE had.
Besides that, the BEAMS REALLY pulls, enough that the front end lifts quite a bit, which is new. Id say the swap was worth the effort for the increase.
Just make sure you are aware of what exhaust setup you have....and be prepared for your ears to bleed if you have an all stainless 2.5" exhaust.
>>EMISSIONS>>One of the big things that I wasnt aware of until midway through the swap was the Emissions. I have an OBD1 car and the motor is (J)OBD2. OBD1 requires dynameter testing in my locale.
Usually how emissions works here in PA (and I assume in other areas as well) is that they test it based on the chassis (although I had someone say they could test it as an OBD2 car which I had planned on doing until I learned about the difference between JOBD and OBD).
I thought this would be problem free until I took the car to a tester and they said they would fail it since the chassis calls for an EGR...but the BEAMS doesnt have an EGR. Even if the car ran clean through emissions they would still fail is because the motor has no EGR and based on the chassis, it should have an EGR.
The only solution that I see for this is to mock mount an EGR and hope for a lazy tech. Even at the 25 yr mark when OBD1 just requires visual, they will still be looking for an EGR.
My plan is to basically faux mount the EGR off of the 5SFE.
>>TEIN Coilovers>>One thing that was kind of overshadowed by the swap was the new coilovers.
I can say now without a doubt that these coilovers are SOOOO much better than the KSPORTS. Much smoother operation and stroke. The TEIN springs I got are about 2kg stiffer than the springs that came on the KSPORTS, and despite that it rides smoother (could be the twin tube design) I cant wait to try them out on the track
The only downsides that the TEINS have are the limited adjustability and the heavy steel construction.
If I would do it again, I would spend the extra $ to have TEIN make a one-off coilover for the car so that I could get more adjustability and newer coilover body.
Not many people have TEINS on their celica's since they only offer one option which costs quite a bit and doenst even come with camber plates or full adjustability like the fully threaded coilovers everyone else offers.
I have only had the Kpsorts so I cant speak for the other brands (though I doubt they are similar in performacne) But I would say without a doubt if you are looking to get a good set of coilovers and have some $ go get a custom set of TEINS or a used set of the ST202 TEINS

This past weekend was spent trying to get last minute car things together so that I could take it back down to MD.
I spent alot of the time trying to flush out the nasty coolant and clean out the engine. I got it pretty clean but its still a but orange. I may take it to get professionally flushed. The block probably could have benefited from a nice hot bath, the coolant passages were pretty nasty.

>Wooo exhaust next!
There is no more room to add a third resonator or muffler in the exhaust hahaha
