I'm jealous of the whole car!!

Finally just bought the bullet and bought the 5 wire mirrors. I just didn't want to have "custom" wires running all over the car for the 7 wire mirrors to work. This is much more OEM ish for the year of the car.

Evidence video (sorry for you guys on cell phones)

Now that those are taken care of, two speakers in the front doors, the door cards and the front end will be wrapped up. Just have to finish out the trunk plastic.

Exhaust appointment coming tomorrow if work will let me out. I think I'm going to keep the factory cat.... Thoughts?
No way.
You'll be holding power back that you should have.
You put so much work and effort into the swap and not having the Beams to it's potential is wrong. You drive my Beams without a cat and you'll regret having a cat in yours.
Ask Daniel about his exhaust thoughts.

^^^ What he said. After resetting the ECU, it became a totally different engine. You hear about the 5S and various other engines "intake and exhaust to let it breathe" but the BEAMS is different. It NEEDS to breathe. I tremendously underestimated that necessity, thinking it would make no more difference than it would on a 5S. Nope, the BEAMS head is way more awesome. The way I see it, a brand new high flow cat is cheap, and your old one is worth some dough at a scrap yard. Now's the best time to replace it.

If you really want a cat you should buy a magnaflow spuncat. They have a round interior with roughly a 300 cell design. Flows great and not very expensive from summit racing.

Monday afternoon. 1 glass pak resonator and cat, sounds angry. Whew.
In other news, I also have the interior getting back together and I drove it to work today.

Slight "grinding" noise coming from belt side of motor. Loud enough to be heard over motor. Have plans to replace timing belt anyway, but a failed bearing at that mileage just isn't likely. Can't tell if it's from timing belt, or serpentine.

I'm in love with those Recaros biggrin.gif

You aren't the only one smile.gif lol.
In other news exhaust is on. Pulls HARD in comparison to what I'm used to. Crazy.
Very nice. Now your JDM car is so JDM kids with Civics will blow up when they see you.

I love having working OBD2 on my beams. The possibilities are now endless! Lol
Slight grinding noise coming from timing components on motor. Any ideas?
idler pulley maybe ?
My AC compressor pulley was shot and made a whining before wife changed it.

Idler pulley was my thought too. I wish I could catch it on tape, but there is no way you'd ever hear it. It's not constant, it's almost intermittent.... If the car is running, the "grinding" is like, cracra..cra......cra..cracracra....cra....cra..cracra ...
It's weird
They were filmed in full HD, but who knows how they uploaded to photobucket.

Phone microphone doesn't do it much justice to the tone of the exhaust. I wanted to stay away from the higher pitches and obnoxious volume. Still needs some more quite, but I've got the tone when you hear it in real life that i want.

Test fitment of wheels. No lug nuts, but flushness is awesome and I really think when they get powder coated gunmetal gray...they'll be awesome.

Still looks exactly like this, but rims have rubber removed and are in my shed about to get straightened out because they were apparently a bit bent.

In other news, house over car so not much progress. anyone else got anything.
Dat ICW Racing. My brother had those on his Jetta in '04.

Long overdue update.

So I've been debating about how to finish the car with paint etc. Ended up figuring I'd at least ditch 1/2 of my JDM Fenders because the damage was too great on the one, and cut the hole in my USDM fender for the blinker light. Outside of this group, nobody would ever know the difference anyway. The driver side fender will likely stay JDM and get a vinyl wrap instead of paint.

so we started out by measuring... and using AutoCad to make sure my measurements were on point.

The Cut...

The fit...

The install..

Thought I had some motor mounts loose so i took out my air box to get a look at the transmission mount....
Squirrels find a place to put nuts everywhere....

Finally got the headlight tabs fixed and put her back together...

not a bad way to do it. maybe i'll do the same to mine and save some money on getting my jdm fenders cleaned and painted

You weren't kidding when you said you were going to bump it.
Got a quote for paint, $3000 to do the whole car. Too much stuff going on with the house to spring for that to be honest. Car starts up and runs and drives. I take it to work about once or twice a month. More in the summer than the winter.

I need to get the front end inspected. A pinch squirrely in hard left handers. Could just be alignment, but if its a worn out part I'll be going "gt4 play the easy way" to get some new front end components.
why is this car not AWD, boo

haha yup! no there's motivation for you to post more pics and update us all on what's been going on.

$3000 for paint isn't bad at all. what color are you going with?
gt4 play is great stuff, definitely a good choice for upgrade.
