Your making this too tempting with me not having the funds to do it lol
Hood clearance??? Who needs a hood if I stuff a 2gr in the coupe I'm leaving the hood off to show that bad boy off lol

In all honesty I will probably be in touch at some point about a 2gr..... but it'll be awhile..
Would like to hear all the detail on what it takes

Oh nice hearing from you mr220v!! Its been too long

I've been looking for over a year and never found a donor. I found a Camry that was a driving car, but it was $2,000 or so. Need to find one that's been rear-ended, then I can most likely get the swap done for free when it's all said and done.

When I did my brother's, I didn't feel like it was necessary to get an entire 2gr parts car, or even a motor set. He bought a longblock, and then bought everything else separately. There are a lot of items that you wouldn't use out of a motor set. Catalytic converters/manifolds, power steering, and the automatic transmission. Also, you have to find the very specific nonimmobilized rav4 2grfe ecu. So since you're stuck piecing it all together anyway, may as well save the money and not pay up for a motor set.

Again, for a Celica, the big thing to look at going in is the hood clearance.
How much taller than a 1mz is the 2gr??
Only reason I've thought about a donor car is I'd get a lot of what I need at one time an could sell some of the leftover parts or just scrap the car. A e153 is a must I'm guessing with the 2gr too isn't it. What the rough cost of a basic 2gr swap?

^Your soul!!! Muwahahahaha!!!

For the 1MZ I think it's worth trying to find a donor since there were Camry/Solara that have the 1MZ/E153 from the go. I had the thought if you have the GT Celica just swap drive-trains between the two and you could sell the Camry/Solara as a working car for probably not much less than what you payed for it.

Only downside to that is you then have 2 wiring harness that you need

Everything is there, just needs lots of solder and schematics. tongue.gif

The gears have been turning for awhile
This car isn't stopping at a 1mz
The 1mz is just the starting point.....

Something like that

I'm honestly surprised smaay didn't just go 2gr from the start

Isnt he going FI with his build? I think I'd like to see that before a 2gr in his celica biggrin.gif

Did someone say twin turbo 2GR? tongue.gif

2001 Miata LS 5-speed
I don't think a fwd celica could handle a 2grtte

Smaay is going to run a s/c on his 3mz I do beleave

It'll do good to handle a stock 2GR, unless all you're doing is drag racing then it really doesn't matter too much how little you can steer. tongue.gif

If I do a 2gr I don't think I'd need more than the stock output lol

I say supercharge the 1MZ and call it a day. tongue.gif

I'd much rather have all motor

No lag with a supercharger, and it makes a cool whirling sound. redface.gif

sc'ing your 1mz puts you in the 2gr ballpark.

Smaay couldn't do a 2gr. No way to get around AT codes with the 2gr. He's in California, so it wouldn't get past inspection with codes.
Ahh valid point
Glad they don't do that around me lol
What was the rough cost of the 2gr in your brothers Mr2?
Any extra mods need to be done over a 1mz swap?

"The buy my stuff, for help make great finish project of celica fund!"
Trunk mount that turbo right?
I was joking lol I got a feeling that would be more care than I could handle lol

A stock 2gr would be plenty o power for me.......dang it now you got me really thinking about this.....

One of those moments I was scouring feverishly for the like button lol
Kurt, a 2GR will require a ton of work and it will be expensive. if you are looking to upgrade, just get a 3MZ and run it with the 1MZ electronics like I did. you will NOT be disappointed. a 2GR will require wiring, and the engine (2400 +) 3MZ engines i see all day long on car-part for about 700 bucks
