It is finally time.... for boost! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #48623 230 posts Started by 6strngs
ok, so today I ordered these parts:
2 studs (one for turbo to downpipe, the other for manifold to head) 2 @ $2.45
1 stud for coolant line $1.45
1 nut for manifold to cylinder head $2.17
4 nuts for coolant lines 4 @ $1.45
2 nuts for oil line 2 @ $3.08
1 gasket for coolant line (already have one) $4.17
1 coolant line block-off plate $6.90
1 wastegate actuator arm clip $1.93

tax = $2.93
Total = $36.41

more than double the cost of what 1sttoyotaparts.com lists as MSRP, so I paid about triple what it would be from their website. it's insane! but I don't have to pay for shipping, and I don't have to wait for shipping! they should be there monday or tuesday.

I think I read somewhere that the nut for the compressor wheel is left hand threads, so it might be hard to find one...

I might order the muffler and cat by the end of today too, who knows.

if all the parts were in stock... which I highly doubt. they could have the parts in stock by tuesday or wednesday (they aren't open weekends), and shipped and the parts could be here saturday or monday kindasad.gif if these were expensive parts I would have done it that way, but I just want them asap so I can install next weekend.

ok, got a nut for the shaft from OSH. in case anyone wanted to know or cared, it's left hand threaded (meaning you spin it left to tighten and right to loosen which is the opposite of most bolts). I'm pretty positive that it'll hold without problems. I also tried to get a bolt to plug the EGT bung but the bolt I got was too small, so I have to get a different one.

and I just got done placing an order for the muffler and cat. here's what I have left to get:

wastegate actuator (found one, just waiting on a response)
plug for EGT bung
new oil
something to mount the Intercooler with
and a custom exhaust

wow, I'm pretty much there! this is exciting!

wow man, cant wait for this thing to be done for you, and for you to finally have boost. I hate seeing you struggle to find all these little parts lol. looking good though...it will all come together wink.gif
got my filter today, here it is on the now unclocked turbo!

hopefully it won't interfere with anything being right there.. otherwise I gotta find some kind of hose for it... and I'm not really sure what to use as a hose.

Yeah, if you can get in touch with him and tell him I'm still waiting on him to get back to me that would be great. Thanks

I'm still trying to reach him, but his current Cricket number is down and supposedly, the only other way to reach him is through his gf, but I don't have her number. kindasad.gif Sorry this had happened to you, but I'll do my best to try and get in touch with him.

toyota dealership called yesterday. said they had some parts, but that some were back ordered and could take anywhere from 3 days to a week to get there. and one of the parts he mentioned as being back-ordered was the coolant line block-off plate... so I'm gonna just head over there like first thing friday, or maybe thursday after work if they're still open, and I'll get whatever parts that they do have for me. I'll just have to hold off on installing the turbo itself until after I get all the parts. I still plan on starting work on friday.

other news: wastegate actuator will be shipped tomorrow with overnight mail. so that should be here thursday or friday.

other other news: muffler and cat will be here 07/02, I believe that's monday.

get it done! ive been waiting on brake parts from prtznet for over a month so im glad you didnt have to wait to long for your stuff biggrin.gif
well, I got a lot more done today than I expected to. here's a list of everything I can remember off the top of my head:
removed front bumper
removed entire exhaust and exhaust manifold
removed valve cover, swapped injectors, replaced valve cover
removed oil pan, replaced with 3s oil pan

ok, so it doesn't sound like a lot, but the oil pan alone took a couple hours. I worked basically from 11am until about 10pm. several breaks, but still. it's quite possible I could finish tomorrow. we'll see.
here's the only pictures I took.

yea man, that oil pan takes a bit. nice to see it all coming together!! now wake up early tomorrow and get this thing boosted!!!!! it seems like you got all the biitch work out of the way, so the rest should go smoothly and not take you long at all. btw, what bov are you using.

so much for waking up early, it's about 2:30 pm and I'm just waking up... lol. BOV is the oem mr2 one. for now, it's just getting vented to atmosphere, maybe I'll recirculate it later, who knows.

sorry I didn't update last night, I was wrenching away with my buddy justin until about 3 in the morning. I'm getting so close! the turbo, manifold, downpipe assembly is in and installed. all the oil and coolant lines are hooked up. basically, everything is done except the intercooler piping. here's some pics:

btw, I have zero issues with my oil filter relocation lines hitting the downpipe. the only thing is, I need some kind of hose to use for my intake. the filter won't just sit there, I just have no idea what to use! I can't find anything anywhere...

isn't your hose too close to the DP? especially when your's is rubber hose? when the DP gets too hot wouldn't it melt the hose? awesome job with the turbo install. if you need a hose you can get a 3" rubber tube like the one manny and i bought from autozone.

the hose is about 1/2" away from touching the downpipe. I had gotten som braided steel sleeves for the hose, but it was so much of a pain to get on I just gave up after a half hour (and not being anywhere close). as for the intake hose, what I want is a rubber tube like you and manny got, but I can't find one at any of my local auto parts stores! somebody wanna mail me one?

that hose WILL melt.
its within 1/2" of your downpipe, which easily gets in exess of 5-600*, and within a couple inches or so of the SUPER hot manifold...ever see a pic of a 3sgte manifold after a hard boost run? it gets so hot, it GLOWS.
you loose that line in a situation like that, your engine is gonna be toast, and you'll be lucky if you dont have a SWEET car-b-que on your hands. those lines are carrying the lifeblood of your engine man! dont cheap out on them.
i'd keep a VERY close eye on that.
other than that, lookin like a turbo setup man!

i got that cheapo intake pipe @ autozone.

rune you lines over to the left, and wrap them with heat insulation.
those wont last long there. they will melt or crack and break. not good.
but other than that, like Manny said good job.

well, it was only meant to be temporary until I had some money to get stainless braided lines and the canton racing adaptor.. if I run the oil filter in the location that you have it, or shin has it, the lines physically touch the downpipe. where I have it, it's about a 1/2" away. I will keep an eye on it. and I won't be driving the car much until it has an exhaust, and after that I'll take it pretty easy until I have a water/methanol injection kit. so hopefully by then I should have enough money to get the stainless lines.

I guess I'll take a harder look around for that intake pipe. is it actually called "intake pipe" or something else? also, is it rubber or plastic?

I've got some of the IC piping done. it would be better if I had more 45* couplers. the way it's getting on there, 2 pipes come at different angle and I try my best to join them with a straight coupler. lol. only other thing is, I don't think the hood will close with my BOV where it is, so I gotta try to figure something out for that. I'm taking a break right now. I'll probably get back to it around 10pm tonight and keep working until it's done (for the most part) hopefully. I still gotta mount the intercooler. I had an idea, but it would require getting some bolts which would bolt into the little threaded things on the top of the IC, but I can't find any place around here that sells anything bigger than a 12mm bolt, and I need at least a 15mm or 16mm.

well, today was a good day. she started right up on the frst try! SOOO LOUD! sounds like a fricken muscle car, but I'm sure that's cause I have no exhaust, lol. smokes everywhere cause of how rich it runs. she idled great for a bit, then we had an oil leak... I'm pretty sure it's coming from the relocation kit where it bolts to the block. other than that, she's fine! I really need to tune it though. I still have to do some minor stuff like the under plastics and the front bumper. but I took it around the block at full throttle, and all I can say is wow! it's so fast! and the higher the RPMs go up, and the more it spools, the faster it goes! biggrin.gif I'm going to hopefully fix all the odds and ends in a day or two. i need some money badly to get some braided lines and the canton racing adaptor, an exhaust, some dyno time, etc.

here's the only pic I have for now:

just to show you guys how close my oil filter relocation lines are:

yup. just as i thought... those hoses are toooo close. but good job man. glad to see it fire up on the 1st try. just take things slowly. don't rush it. double check everything and you'll be boosting happily.

I know what you're saying. and since I'm leaking oil from the relocation kit, I guess I'll be getting the canton adaptor and stainless lines sooner than I thought. in fact, I don't think I'll be driving it much if at all until I get them.

btw, you probably can't see in the pic but I was able to find an intake hose at kragen smile.gif

good job man!
the better its tuned, the better it will run too!!
as for those lines, the less you drive with them like that, the better off you'll be.
especially if your leaking oil from the block adapter.
remember, use boost wisely, and ONLY for good. never for evil.. wink.gif

Fill that thing up with sum of the racing fuel which is readily available out here. 110 Octane YEA!!! Your hp would increase so dramatically.
