Building an engine at this point will take more time and be more costly. I'm looking for something fairly easy... i've been neglecting my house, girlfriend, dog, etc. hahaha over the last two months trying to get the car done. So now i need some time for other things.

amen, i've done the opposite of you C, let me take care of your car.
Anyone have any links for the 3sge wiring swap? I'm really not worried, it can't be any worse than the rx7 was, but I'd like to know generally what is required. I searched for 3sge, but haven't found much in terms of wiring.

People these days usually swap to 3sgte or a beams there are a few on here which have swapped/going to. I think the wiring would be easier than the beams/ 3sgte

As for parts they should be cheaper, still might be a bit of a hassle with availability due to the 3sge not for sale in the usa

I've also pm'd you with some 3sge wiring diagrams

ST202 SS-II CELICA threadNew Zealand members check inSticky thread's: How to contribute and troubleshoot.
I bought the 3sge non beams. Should have it next week. Like I said i'm trying to start slow; even the top $200k+ cars are only have 285 hp/350 tq, different than a lot of other racing. Don't need that much HP to get yourself into trouble.

Need to change brakes/rotors/front axles on my audi to get it to pass inspection. Have to work saturday, off sun/mon. So sunday i'll be working on the audi. Monday I'm going to pull this engine, hopefully have soom good carnage pics.

Assholes that inspected my audi torqued the wheel bolts to over 200 ftlbs. Torque spec is 90. Broke a bolt head off; now cant remove the wheels.

I did manage to get the celica around the back of my house and into the workshop. Barely made it as there's a hill to get in. I had to get a running start. Floored at in neutral it wouldnt rev higher than 3k rpms. Sounds like a healthy engine to me! owned.gif

Man I feel for you. I'm always scared to let anyone else touch my car. I'm looking forward to the 3sge swap.
So I tore the engine down yesterday. Rod bearings in cylinders 2 and 3 were gone completely. Not even spun, just gone. Crank and rods are scored pretty good.

Some of these are a bit old.

Exhaust I made.

1/4 inch aluminum skid plate. Already has some big dents in it.

3sge

Hard to tell but the crank and pistons are really scored...

Car looks awesome man, and love the rally pics. Anywho, i just wanted to share, that the 3sge, and 3sgte BOTH came AWD. So you shouldnt have no problem mating the 3rd gen 3sge to the chassis...Anywho, hope you get it back on the road and back on the gravel and dirt!!

thats some great work there man! thats pretty cool man great job!

Found another. Anyways, work will start on the engine swap soon. I started looking at the wiring last night, it's going to suck without the schematics for the 3sge. If i had the schematics it would be easy. Hopefully I can piece enough info together and have it up and running soon.

Does anyone know if the 3sge 3rd gen uses OBDII/Diag ports. The igniter wires have been cut but there's a ton of extra wires which i'm assuming is for the port which I wont need.

Build a car and go race. It's not as difficult as you'd think if you have a semi-decent income and an understanding wife/gf hahaha.

Actually, you can buy stage ready cars for 5-6k, might just have to do some slight modifications. The safety equipment (fire suit, hans, helmet) isn't exactly cheap, but its pretty much a one time only expense and they dont lose there value much so you can always sell them if need be.

I can assure anyone its way more fun than any other type of racing you'll do. I've done drag, street, autox, road tracks, nothings really close.

I'm pretty much as against a rotary engine as you can get, so you wont see one from me.

Besides, if I could fit a bigger turbo this car should be able to make well over 1000rwhp on pump gas. Supposively the guy that tuned my car is coming back to pittsburgh, so I should get it retuned in the upper 700's rwhp range...if i decide to run more boost get in the 800's. It scares the **** out of me to drive as is... so really its just a number. I dont even take it over 4500 rpms.

I was supposed to take a trip down to viginia beach to have it retuned this month, but me and the girl decided to go to niagara for a few days instead. Getting it retuned isn't real high on the priority list. I barely even drive it anymore.

I can understand, to me it hurts to see an rx with no rotary motor lol. I love them but You have a great setup there =)

Ehh, its a great chassis and a ****ty engine. There's a reason 99% of the cars on the road have pistons. I figure I just took a car with a big flaw and fixed it. biggrin.gif

Car had 120k on it when I bought it and was already on its 3rd engine.

OBDII is US only. Japan never adopted it.

Where/what did you make the mud flaps out of?
They are made of some kind of thick polyurethane. You can buy the squares off Rally Lights.

FYI, you do have the grind the block down on a 3sge to fit the e154f transmission. Was not real happy about having to do that again. It's a huge pain in the ass, if you've never done it before and dont know what needs to be taken off itll take several hours. Even this time after I know what needed to be done probably still took 2 hours with a regular angle grinder to notch it down and fit the transmission.

Also found it strange that the 5sfe flywheel will not bolt to the 3sge crank. Clutch sizes are the same though.... The hole pattern on the crank is slightly different.

Sorry to hear about the 5s letting you down. I like how you are doing the opposite of the rx-7. In the long run you and the car will have much greater success!

And if you'd like to talk about scary 1000hp cars check out my bosses newest build.Brent Jackson Customs I hate vettes, but this things crazy. Hopefully he updates the pictures it's even better now!

Well i'm in wiring hell right now. I got all the wiring done and matched up. I had to cut the body connections off the stock harness and add them. Add the MAP sensor and Igniter. I didn't install the diag port. Also had to cut the fuse block off of the stock harness and wire it into the 3sge harness.

So I got done with all of that, I pretty much went through and verified everything because color matching only worked with about 80% of the wires.

Sooo after that, I had to chop the bulk of the harness literally in half to extend it 3 feet since its a RHD harness and I need it to go to the left side.

To anyone that has to do this....... DONT just chop it in half. Label each wire on both sides before you clip it. I thought it would be simple, just color match and solder the wires back together. I knew that were was more than 1 of a few colors, but I figured they were all on the same node. Wrong! For example there was 8 B/R wires (i made a big chart), 7 of them is a floating ground, so it doesnt matter which B/R wire you link back together. However one B/R wire goes to Fuel injector #3.

Not a huge deal since you can just do continuity checks to see which wire is which, but it took me about 2 hours to be able to check continuity on the fuel injector. Those things are burried below the intake. I removed the connector with two long screw drivers then a hook.... huge pain. I was really trying to avoid removing the intake, not easy to access with the E154f tranny
on the back.

I'm hoping to have all the wiring completed tomorrow. Going away for the weekend though so it probably won't be running for another 2 weeks.

lol, what a mistake!! i have done one little, how to ,extend your harness to give idea but i think its too late for you to check it now lol laugh.gif
one wire at a time, OR one set of wire at a time, but cutting it in half like that is a nightmare to wire it back.
and and it usefull to dont cut it all the harness at the same spot, cause some wire split 3 to 1 in certain point, so you actually extend 3 wire than just one (in some caSE)

but im no professial
just a guru
biggrin.gif
The wiring would be the most difficult part of with the cut harness.

Glad to see you've made some headway with it, if you have any questions, post them up.

I have a thread in the engine section '3sge ongoing swap questions'. If you wouldnt mind taking a look at. Basically just extra wires coming off the 3sge ECU that are not listed on the ECU diagram.
