congrats !

I certainly hope it was worth switching everything over again for a new motor rather than another 5s

Drove it around today for the first time. The HP is right about where I want it to be, not too much, but not insanely slow either.

I probably feel a big jump because I think the last engine was taking a crap on me even before I completely destroyed it. That engine was probably sitting around 100hp.

I really really hate the sound though. Sounds like a giant ricer mobile, with extra weed wackers on top. Very few 4cyls sound good... i'd rather this one just not have sound haha. Noticable sound difference between this engine and the 5sfe with the same exhaust minus the header.

congrates on getting it finished, I bet it feels better to be able to up to 7,000rpm? A bit stink about the exhaust sound though, maybe look at a new exhaust setup, or cams biggrin.gif

do u have the pre silencer in? most rally cars sound like crap

What I think when you think I care
I have straight pipe the whole way back. I built the exhaust myself the stock and aftermarket exhaust hung too low. Kept it as tight to the body as I could.

Check out spintech mufflers, I have one on my car followed up by a glasspack. I put the glasspack in to make it a little quiter and take out the mid range drone I was getting. But spintech has a lot of options and they're quality parts.
I was actually messing around with some friends on our dirt roads (theres no through traffic, and no speed limit on these roads) when I decided I really want to turn the Celica into a rallyx car. And then I saw this thread. biggrin.gif Good luck dude, maybe I'll see you out there one day (I make trips up to Pittsburgh to visit the remaining family that lives up there and the family grave plot)
I havent posted any pics lately. Cars all ready to go. I leave for snowshoe WV on thursday.

Welded a lug nut on the jack, keep a battery powered impact gun in the car, so with the nut I can jack the car up in like 5 seconds to change a tire.

this build thread is the best! post more pics of you rallying it this time!
Well, I finished. First stage I was kinda slow...

Second two stages were run at night, had a decent time at like 1am on friday night.

Saturday I had an off, we were a note behind and I took a right 3 at right 6 speed, then goes into a big metal gate after the turn. I almost saved it but the rear drivers side wheel went off the edge over a small ditch. We got it out after some pushing and lost about 8 minutes.

Then later the clutch was struggling. I end up running the next 20mile stage shifting only once after the start which was around a hairpin turn.

Went back to service took the starter off and poured a bottle of coke on the clutch. It carmelizes and makes it stick in a pinch. On the way back out the clutch felt much better... however the last two stages were canceled; somehow a truck got out onto stage roads and that immediately cancels the stage.

So I finished but the times were slow, bad clutch, and have a hole in the drivers side floor from the off. Ill post some pics tomorrow.

don't sound so disappointing dude. It must have been a ton of fun. Which is the whole point right?
Oh don't get me wrong it was awesome. Just kinda pissed I need to pull the engine again! Haha...

It's tough... anything over 70mph I get a little nervous on gravel flying through the woods.

play Dirt 3 with the 205 lol I wish I could rally my 205 but its real expensive down here for that...need lots of gas and stuff, its desert rally, like driving over talcum powder

What I think when you think I care
i want to do this so bad. you're an inspiration

on a side note, ANY kind of racing will be ver hard on any car. you're gonna break things u never even thought of beefing up.. (stronger clutch? stage 2?)

We were off on the notes, I took a Right 3 at Right 6 speed.... slide off the road and over a basketball size boulder.

Good thing the brake and fuel lines are rerouted through the cockpit; otherwise they were toast.

Well at least it didn't cause any major damage! Just bang it out with some hammers haha
i think it would be better to cut that peace of metal out and weld in another in its place then just hammering it out
Floor is fixed, just cut out about a 1.5x1' square and welded a new piece back in then welded the seat bracket back to the new piece.

Anyways found some pics of us on a hairpin.

Haha well, I had 6 of them throughout the weekend none were perfectly executed. I can't get it into 1st while still moving at any decent rate of speed.

I can get the car spund around and pointed in the right direction quickly, but there's a little pause before I take off again.

haha, you're probably a better driver than I am, but I would think that you might have to "help" the synchronizers in the tranny out a little bit. So maybe get on the gas real good as you move from the higher gear toward first to about 4500-5000 rpm or so, might go in easier then.
Regardless how it went in reality.... that must be one of the more fun looking things I've ever seen. awd celi in a rally race smile.gif nice
That looks like so much fun. I would love to do the same, But I would feel real bad for my car haha

haha, just own 3 of them like I do lol - its a simple process really. You buy one, you hit a deer at very high velocity. You buy another pos one to fix your first one, then get on 6gc and really fall in love with the car. And after you have those first two, you buy a third to make your project and everything a Celica should have always been. smile.gif

when driving heavily you have to floor it with the clutch and push into 1st...the car will know when to get into gear...but if you rev too high you will miss the sweetspot

What I think when you think I care
I know the concept of how to downshift into first gear, but there's a hell of a lot going on.

Keep in mind i'm flying into that corner at about 75 mph blind on gravel. Unless I can heel to toe, which I can't especially with the pedal setup and my big ass feet.

I do it all the time in my audi on snow, but it's completely different being in a race situation.
